Cry for the Moon (The Embrace That Smothers Part IV) Lyrics
You cannot hide yourself
behind a fairytale forever and ever
Only by revealing the whole truth can we disclose
The soul of this sick bulwark forever and ever
Forever and ever
contain sick thoughts
And commit most of the evil they preach against
You accuse us of sins committed by yourselvesIt's easy to condemn without looking in the mirror
Behind the scenes opens reality
Forgiveness is not for sale Nor is the will to forget
You cannot hide yourself
behind a fairytale forever and ever
Only by revealing the whole truth can we disclose
The soul of this sick bulwark forever and ever
Forever and ever
And the extinguisher loses it's immunity
Morbid abuse of power in the garden of Eden
Where the apple gets a youthful face
Forgiveness is not for sale
Nor is the will to forget
You cannot hide yourself
behind a fairytale forever and ever
Only by revealing the whole truth can we disclose
The soul of this sick bulwark forever and ever
Forever and ever
Forgiveness is not for sale
Nor is the will to forget
Behind old fashioned fairytales
And keep washing your hands in innocence

For the moment, the most beautiful song which epica made, the words are marvellous and full with hidden directions. A beautiful lesson of morals for the pitiful Human race!

Yes,this is actually song against the Catholic church, and probably has something to do with priests who are abusing little children. Before a few days there was a scandal in Croatia. The old priest was abusing one of his students....sorry for my terrible English

Very simple... It's about hypocritic people involved in religion (leaders mostly). The last line is reference to holy water (on a more literal level) and confession (on a more figurative level).

This is the 4th song from 'the Embrace that Smothers', a serie of songs written by Mark Jansen, started of with the band After Forever, but continued by Epica after Jansen switched bands.
Like all other songs of this serie, this song is a statement against organised religion. In specific this song deals about the sexual abuse of little children by catholic priests. It also states the hypocritic behavior of these priests (and the church in general) telling us what to do and not to do, accusing us of being sinful, while committing worse crimes themself.

They're criticising Christians because they're flippin' hypocrites. All the abominations that are taught against in the Bible are committed by them. They even try and justify it by twisting scriptures. It's sick. I agree with the song.

well, i got the message of this song a while after i heard this song. this is about the priest of the catholic church, the way that they abuse of the little children and how the criticize people but they are worst.

I see that point about the church and hypocrisy and stuff but what does the song title have to do with it?
Because it sounds cool, obviously! Nah, I don't know.

well the moon is assoicated with a myriad of things and your answer is proabably in there

What cries for the moon? Wolves! Jesus called hypocrites "wolves in sheeps' clothing"...

"Cry for the Moon" is based on the abuse of children by Catholic priests.

Thank God I'm an Orthodox Christian, our church is full of love, justice and normality and yes, the catholic church made lot of sins, like burning thousands of women, abusing young children, their priests are sick!
SO YOU KNOW THEY ALL SEEM THAT WAY. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A RIGHT RELIGION. OR A GOOD RELIGION. ITS ALL ABOUT DOING THE RIGHT THING AND THE CHOICES WE MAKE. WHEN THEY TALK ABOUT WASHING HARDS IN INNICENCE ITS ABOUT STEPPING ON PEOPLE FOR WHAT THEY WANT

Judging by the song lyrics, it is no doubt about abuse to children in the Catholic Church. Right there is one reason I don't believe in the Christian (etc) god; all of the hypocrisy.
And yes, the last line is about them 'washing away their sins' through confession or holy water.
