EPICA is a symphonic metal band, founded in 2003 by Mark Jansen after his departure from the band "After Forever".
Epica are known for fusing symphonic orchestration, choirs, clean female vocals, male growl vocals, and metal music. The band currently consists of Mark Jansen (guitar and vocals), Simone Simons (vocals), Coen Janssen (piano and synth), Arien Van Weesenbeek (drums), Isaac Delahaye (guitar), and Rob Van Der Loo (bass). All six members participate in composing their songs, though their lyrics are usually written by vocalists Simone Simons and Mark Jansen. Their songs largely deal with philosophical topics, including science, religion, and world events. In 2013, Epica released "Retrospect" on DVD and Bluray, a 3-hour concert performance to celebrate their 10-year anniversary. Besides the regular band members, the "Retrospect" concert also included the 70-piece "Extended Remenyi Ede Chamber Orchestra" and the "Choir Of Miskolc National Theatre". Epica have released six original full-length studio albums...The Phantom Agony (2003), Consign To Oblivion (2005), The Divine Conspiracy (2007), Design Your Universe (2009), Requiem For The Indifferent (2012), and The Quantum Enigma (2014).
In 2016 Their 7th Album Which Will Be Released On September 30 Which Entitles "The Holographic Principle".
