But the path of life is not totally so predestined
And time and chronology show us how all should be
In the ways of existence
To find out why we are here
The more we learn is the less we get
Every answer contains a new quest
A quest to non existence, a journey with no end
But life’s objective is to make it meaningful
Only searching for this
That which doesn’t exist
Although our ability to relativize remains unclear
I’m afraid to be alive without being aware of it
Waste all my energy on things
That do not matter anymore
But we don’t grasp the meaning
Of our programmed course of life
Our future has already been wasted by us alone
And we just let it happen and do not worry at all
And smell death every day
Search for the answers that lie beyond
I love this song! However, I do not believe in fate. Everything is pure chance to me. One time I was thinking about the things I've learned, and I don't know if Epica was referring to this but "every answer contains a new quest" really means a lot to me. I feel this is especially true for science. We dig for more answer, and while we get more answers, we're also getting multiple new questions per new answer. Unconquerable world. But it really applies to knowledge in general, as evidenced by the ever-growing number of majors of study in colleges/universities and such.
It's a great song for when you feel overwhelmed with the responsibilities of life. I'm in college now, so for me, I kind of want to go back to being a kid. Because you don't really think about major issues like global poverty or health or global warming or wars.
maybe what is meant is that fate has been established in such a way that if we continue with our habits now, we'll end up a certain way (extinct?). Or thought our fate has been written because we've encountered similar issues in history in the history repeats itself manner.
wow no comments on this one... weird this song is one of the bests + the lead singer is the hottest girl in the whole freakin' world ^_^
i know i'm a bit late (or a year) but this song is totally awesome. :-)
This song is awesome, no doubt, and simone is pretty frikin hot ^_^
I think the song is talking (or question) about life's existace, why are we here, we don't know why, and the more we know, the more unanswered questions there is
I definately agree that this song is discussing the meaning of life and the purpose of human existance.
"I’m not afraid to die I’m afraid to be alive without being aware of it"
The way this particular line is written implies that there is also a fear of wasting the mysterious space of life we are given.
(Yay a comment per year, 2009 is mine!)
This song is so powerful, and its meaning is very deep. Simone's voice is so awesome <3 I love the chorus! It's the first Epica's song i've heard, and it's really a great song imo. :)
This was the first song that i heard from epica, and i have to say that the meaning behind it is quite simplistic. " Being conscious is a torment, the more we learn is the less we get" The chorus speaks for itself. Why be conscious and know noting, when you could live in the doldrums of you mind searching for your own personal life answers? Even so, being conscious and dealing with all the secrets of life can be a burden.
