Fade to Black (Metallica cover)

Dan Donegan has become a better and better guitarist on each successive Disturbed album. I bet that if Disturbed still plays this song live, Dan plays the solo now. But the fact that back when they recorded this cut of it (You can find it on the 'Music as a Weapon II' live album I think.) they didn't even try to play the guitar solo or the rest of the song that comes afterward makes this cover irrelevant. Don't get me wrong, I like Disturbed a lot. But if you're going to try to cover one of the all-time greats, you've got to really put your all in to it. Half-assing it just won't cut it. As a result, this isn't even in the same ballpark as the original.

Yep, it was done live, I heard this on a music choice channel on direcTV satelitte, its awesome....I love metallica this is my favorite song by metallica and disturbed doing a cover of it was just plain awesome...even if its live they still did it well, only thing is that they didnt finish it and didnt sing the last part, but its still cool.

They did an okay cover, but it's nowhere near as haunting of a melody as the original Metallica song. Metallica's gave me goosebumps. Disturbed's version just gave me nostalgia.

Anyway, the song appears to be about suicide, but Metallica originally wrote the song when some jerk got away with most of Metallica's equipment after a show. Guess that pissed them off, and they wrote this in response. I hope the dude who stole their stuff burns in the firy cauldron of hell. Or Martha Stewart's kitchen. I dunno which is worse.

Metallica ORGINALLY wrote this. That is definate. I never knew Dist. remixed it. hmm ill have to check that one out. hey this is awesome to have 2 of my fav bands in here like this!! cooool!! :)

Shaftman-Hetfield wrote this because one of the things that got stolen was a Marshall amp that was very special to him.

Yes, Metallica originally wrote this in 1984 during the Kill Em All tour, when James Hetfields Marshall amp was stolen. It was also the final song performed by Metallicas first Bass-Player "Cliff", who was killed afterwards in a tourbus accident. And, on the Black tour in 92, James Hetfield was blasted by a flame jet during the solo at the end of this song.

It was then placed as Track 04 on Metallicas 1984 album "Ride The Lightning".

The song in general is a suicide letter, which follows the Ride The Lightning albums scheme on death.

This song is a favorite amoung millions of fans, performed as covers by other bands and singers.

And yes, for those reading my Username, this is my favorite song ever. =P
