(The Symphony Of) Blase Lyrics

Are there no shadows where you are?
I can see everything as day
Problems that you try to hide away
Pushing me aside
You're pushing me aside

Could the winter calm come twice?
Because your heart seems to cold tonight
Thirst for substance somehow isn't right
It's killing me inside
It's killing you inside
Killing me inside

I don't wanna be where you are
I don't wanna be here even now
I don't wanna be by your side
If something isn't right
Something isn't right

This is our last goodnight
Say what you will
Say all that you can
Words have no meaning
When I've seen where you've been

This is our last goodnight
Say what you will
Say all that you can
This is our last goodbye
This is where love ends

Are you so naive to right and wrong
How could you watch innocence forgone
Does what we've done ever really belong
You're wasting me away
I feel so wasted away

God if you can hear me out alright
Please take these feelings for her inside
My chest hurts when I breathe tonight
It's wasting me away
You're wasting me away
They're wasting me away

I don't wanna be where you are
I don't wanna be here even now
I don't wanna be by your side
If something isn't right
Something isn't right

This is our last
This is our last

This is our last goodnight
Say what you will
Say all that you can
Words have no meaning
When I've seen where you've been

This is our last goodnight
Say what you will
Say all that you can
This is our goodbye
This is where love ends
This is our last...

This is our last goodnight
Say what you will
Say all that you can
Words have no meaning
When I've seen where you've been
This is our last...

This is our last goodnight
Say what you will
Say all that you can
This is our last goodbye
This is where love ends

This song is indeed about a relationship, but not a traditional relationship with a human, but a substance Acoording to Stephen Christian, Anberlin Frontman,

"With our last album, I'd get emails from fans about the song "Symphony of Blasé" and people would say, 'I just broke up with my girlfriend and that song helped me through it.'

And I'd be like, 'It wasn't a break up song at all. It was about alcoholism.' I mean, these songs aren't about the basic pop, 'Ooh girl. I love you.' They're much deeper than that."

*& it's all an excerpt from: http://www.toothandnail.com/artist_bio.php?id=19

though this does have its speck of your traditional relationship its more of a friendship not of lovers.

The title (The Symphony) Of Blasé is actually a reference to Blasé Pascel (sp?) a french romantic philosopher from the medievel period

"God if you can hear me out alright, please take these feelings for her inside."--That sums up the way I feel right now.

Both the words "thirst" and "substance" have several different meanings. "Substance" can also refer to matter; think "substantially". Perhaps the narrator is suggesting his relationship is lacking substance. Thus he desires (thirst) a more meaningful relationship, one that does not feel so "blasé".

Considering my girlfriend recently broke it off with me for the same reason, I can easily relate to this interpretation. The narrator feels bad about the way he feels: "thirst for substance somehow isn't right," "it's killing me inside," but he also feels bad about further leading her on: "I don't wanna be by your side, if something isn't right." Even though he is unfulfilled with his relationship, it is obvious he cares a lot about his significant other: "please take these feelings for her inside," she probably treats him very well. But he is determined to end it soon: "this is our last goodnight," and preparing for it is killing him: "my chest hurts when I breathe tonight." He knows she has a right to be upset with him and thus will respect what she has to say: "say what you will, say all that you can." I even feel like the lyrics "because your heart seems so cold tonight", and "how could you watch innocence forgone," are directed to himself.

But that is just my interpretation. Alcohol/drug abuse makes sense too.

This is strange. I bought this CD knowing little about this band (Emery told me to buy it so I did) but this song is crazy. My fiance and I just broke up after two perfect years together like a day before I bought this CD and this song describes the whole situation more perfect than I ever thought possible. I can't even believe this!
