Ego Lyrics

I have been contemplating letting go
Of you ego
Thought I'd let you know
You're getting old

It was so irritating saving face
When I fell from grace
Thought you would erase
Without a trace
But you stayed
But you remained
But you
It's always about you

I have been quietly edging away
To keep the flames at bay
Make this puppy stay
To limit my use of
Personal pronouns are the death of me
See I just said 'me'
You're an endless sea of vanity
For you babe
For you
It's always about you

I have been silently taking offense
And at great expense
As my feelings dent
I'm licking my scratches
It serves no purpose doesn't gratify
And you're dissatisfied
And though you're belly's full
There's always more room for you babe
For you babe
For you
It's always about you

I am so surprised to haven't found any comment here...It's one of my favourites in album The Tension And The Spark. I think it talks about being such a big star once, known over the world, and how fake is all that, when inside he stills empty and so full of himself. And he also talks about a puppy, which I think is "Wally", a doggie he got during that particular period of time, where he questioned everything about himself, how shallow he had suddenly become while trying to be someone he was not in his first record, Spin (everybody expected huge sells and he was compelled to produce ear-friendly songs to guarantee success.)

I love, love, love this song! I think it's so clever and ingenious. You can really almost taste the bitterness Darren was feeling, and self contempt. Very deep song.

I have wanted to comment on this song for a long time, but I couldn't find the right words to justify how much I love this song. It's clever, humorous, raw... I'm not even going to try and define it because Gabigs did a perfect job on that. All I can say is that this song is very genuine and pure, just like a lot of his other songs on The Tension and the Spark.
