The Walk Lyrics

Well deep in the woods
Where nothing is seen
A tightrope is strung to his heel
And high on the walk
He's down on one knee
He waits for the slow of the breeze
Oh, wow, look at him now, on his feet
High up in the sky
And every moment stands endlessly
It feels as though time isn't moving

And every second, one breath not to breathe
I watch as he moves to the beat
While I'm on the floor
I watch from my seat
And watch as he sways with the trees
And slowly he moves, but elegantly
I'm more on the edge of my seat

On the tightrope
Everything's bare
All that there is is from here to there
On the tightrope
The goal is quite clear
Don't lose yourself in your fear

Everyone waits on the walk
Some are long and some small
But all of them tall
Everyone must make a choice
Will I go for it all
And possibly fall
The tightrope is thin
I could possibly win on the walk

Well high on the walk
The tightrope it bends
And nobody knows where it ends
To win or to lose
You're all on your own
Everyone must be alone

On the tightrope
Everything's bare
All that there is is from here to there
On the tightrope
The goal is quite clear
Don't lose yourself in your fear

This song was by far the best on the Underneath: Acoustic DVD. It's a metaphor for life and risks you must take to suceed.

faithful_sparkle, i'm with you on this one. the whole song is full of metaphors for living life and taking risks.

apparently, in a recent h.net chat, zac said this song was about believing in god...still on the same track as what i thought the song was about already, but i like my interpretation better.

Yet another amazing Zac song.

I love this part: "On the tightrope Everything's bare All that there is is from here to there On the tightrope The goal is quite clear Don't lose yourself in your fear"

It's so stripped down, like you KNOW what you have to do, do let that fear stop you. And Zac's voice sounds awesome here.

I just can't believe it's about faith in god. This song seems to go hand in hand with 'Broken Angel', about watching someone you've built up, put on a pedestal, falter and fall from grace.

i truely can't see the god in this song...

it seems like it is about not being afraid to try things, and you're going to fail but keep trying... it has the same meaning to me as broken angel...

If zac wrote the song, his meanings for it cannot be set aside...he knows the most about the song so lets believe him...just a thought...

maybe God is the man on the tightrope...as people we look to this higher being (literally higher, in this case) with hope and anticipation (on the edge of our seats). There are bends and trials along the way that make us question God's ability to "cross the tightrope" (pull through and fulfill our hopes).

I also agree that it sounds like what most have said here...that we should not let fear get in out way of getting to where we want to in life.

I definitely see God in this song. The Walk itself is God's path for you, God has a path for everyone to follow, and you can either follow it and win and reach God's potential for you or you can choose not to. I don't think the man on the tightrope is God tho, I think it's someone who is following God's path and how it is to watch someone live their life that way, how it makes you think if you could do it yourself because it's definitely not an easy path.

I love this song, not because of the religious sentiments, but the tone and the sound, and also the other interpretations you can get from it. That interpretation I just gave it just one, I see the "taking risks" one as well

I don't really see anyhting about God in this, but I'm not really religious, so I'm probably not the best one to ask.

As I see it, the tightrope is metaphorical for life and path you are following. You've got to take chances and maybe you will fall off, but you'll never know until you try. You don't know where you'll end up once you get across, but at least you're going somewhere.

Looking at it now, I can kind of see where you are getting the religious stuff. Hmm.
