Teeth in the Grass Lyrics
And when you give me your clothes
And when we're lovers at last
Fresh air, perfume in your nose
There will be teeth in the grass
And when you give me your house
When we're all brothers at last
There will be food in our mouths
There will be teeth in the grass
And when there's nothing to want
When we're all brilliant and fat
When all tomorrows are gone
There will be teeth in the grass
And when we're lovers at last
Fresh air, perfume in your nose
There will be teeth in the grass
When we're all brothers at last
There will be food in our mouths
There will be teeth in the grass
When we're all brilliant and fat
When all tomorrows are gone
There will be teeth in the grass

if you ever been to a cemetery the grave stones can look like teeth protruding from the grass.

"Teeth in the grass" is a metaphor for death, I agree. Death is a constant companion to Life and all the things we get to experience while living: love, brotherhood, nirvana, what have you.
The song reminds me of Carl Sandburg's poem "Grass."
I believe that the idea is that we are all brothers in death, all with a tombstone to mark us, all sleeping eternally together in the dirt
i always thought of "teeth in the grass" as a fight. maybe 'cause i'm from the po-dunk south, but i've seen some fights in the front yard that ended with teeth in the grass. i just think it's about how no matter how happy you are, somebody's always out to ruin it, out to start some crap.

he might be complaining "by the time you love me, we'll be dead" "by the time we all love eachother, we'll be dead" "by the time we've got nothing to worry about, we'll be dead"
plus, when you think about it, it makes the last statement a bit more ironic than the others
This song is just so catchy, tune wise. It's just wonderful.
i think the whole song is just about in the end no matter what there will be death
i think the whole song is just about in the end no matter what there will be death
I find it a little bit creepy, though. Do the teeth in the grass represent death? I know that dreams about teeth falling out are common. Does this tie into dream interpretation in some way?
its one of the faster iron and wine songs. hugs
here's how I see it: First verse: new lovers who have utterly fallen for each other Second verse: Universal brotherhood and peace Third verse: Death and the afterlife
