The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. The lastest song from the White Butterfly album, this a whole lot more melodic than some of there older stuff, Dave really showing that he's got a broader vocal range. I'm not quite sure about the meaning, I think it could possibly be about a girl who's mentally quite fucked up. He know's that somethings wrong, and she may be on the verge of killing herself ("She's slipping through my hands, and she begins to cry"). And he knows the next time he see's her may be on the otherside, which you'd assume is heaven or something like that. And the only comfort he can gain, is by closing his eyes and pretending that she's there with him.
Well that's my thoughts on it, I just can't wait for the rest of the White Butterfly album now. It's due out in early 2005 I think now that InMe have got their record deal sorted out. And maybe another return to Middlesbrough when they're on tour...I really hope so!! :-D
