That One Pop Gem Lyrics
I've been wasting my vacation
Flipping through these hundred stations
And my body's fine
But my head's seen better days
Well your wake was pretty boring
Too much drinking, too much mourning
And your uncle broke my ribs and made me cry
Ooooh
I don't wanna take another bow
I don't wanna stay and hang around
And I don't wanna tell anyone else about my life
I don't wanna be the one who choked
Or be the butt of all your little jokes
I don't want you to leave me here alone, all right
Well I pulled out all my teeth and
Then I brought them to the beach and
Then I threw them one by one into the sea
And watched them sail
I don't wanna take another bow
I don't wanna stay and hang around
And I don't wanna tell anyone else about my life
I don't wanna be the one who choked
Or be the butt of all your little jokes
I don't want you to leave me here alone, all right
Well I was having much more fun
When I thought we were
I don't wanna take another bow
I don't wanna stay and hang around
And I don't wanna tell anyone else about my life
I don't wanna be the one who chokes
Or be the butt of all your little jokes
I don't want you to leave me here alone, all right
All right
Oh oh oh oh
All right
Flipping through these hundred stations
And my body's fine
But my head's seen better days
Too much drinking, too much mourning
And your uncle broke my ribs and made me cry
Ooooh
I don't wanna stay and hang around
And I don't wanna tell anyone else about my life
I don't wanna be the one who choked
Or be the butt of all your little jokes
I don't want you to leave me here alone, all right
Then I brought them to the beach and
Then I threw them one by one into the sea
And watched them sail
I don't wanna stay and hang around
And I don't wanna tell anyone else about my life
I don't wanna be the one who choked
Or be the butt of all your little jokes
I don't want you to leave me here alone, all right
When I thought we were
I don't wanna stay and hang around
And I don't wanna tell anyone else about my life
I don't wanna be the one who chokes
Or be the butt of all your little jokes
I don't want you to leave me here alone, all right
Oh oh oh oh
All right

This Scene Is Dead

This is the most upbeat song about death I've ever heard. He's bummed out because his friend/SO died, and now he's got to do the whole funeral/wake thing. That's the sort of thing that can ruin your summer.
Actually, I think it's about a breakup of some sort.
"When I thought we were alive"
"I don't wanna be the one who chokes"
"I don't want you to leave me here alone, all right"
-it makes much more sense than a funeral.
I don't think it's about a break-up alone, I mean it would make sense if it weren't for the: "Well your wake was pretty boring," and "Too much drinking, too much mourning." Especially the bit about the uncle makes me think it's a funeral 'cause he probably squished his ribs when he was giving his consolations.
I really don't get who else he's singing about though..? In that aspect the breaking up thing mentioned above indeed makes a lot more sense.
I think its about visiting the girl's family, and them thinking that the guys a joke...
i'm not quite sure what to make of this song, it's melancholy presented in an odd sort of way. i think it might be how he doesn't want to be associated with this girl's family because she's died "I don't wanna stay and hang around / And I don't wanna tell anyone else about my life" , but is obliged to when he's struggling a little bit himself "I don't want you to leave me here alone, all right". not sure, maybe i'm reading too much into it.
I thought it was about a break-up. the wake was metaphorical, meaning, maybe, the actual time when they broke-up? or afterwards, when he went to the bar "too much mounring, too much drinking".
and maybe the uncle broke his ribs cause he broke the uncle's neice's heart?
Actually, according to Kieth (the singer/guitarist), the song is a parody of popular angsty songs and meant to be nonsensical. A record executive told him that the band's music would be better if it was more angsty (if you've heard their other early stuff you know it has it's own unique quility). So, in reaction, Kieth wrote this song.
Also, the line "I was having much more fun when i though were were alive" is incorrect. The last word isn't meant to be understood beyond the "ah-lah".
Does any one know what the title means cause I dont
as kidonpatrol said, it's meant to be funny, poking fun at angsty songs and kind of making a sort of mockery of the record exec who told them their songs would be better that way. a "pop gem" is essentially a pop song that is considered to be, like, really great (a gem being something of high value and beauty). he's just further pushing the whole joke of this song by calling it "that one pop gem," or their one great hit as well as making it "angsty" or whatever.
