Always New Depths Lyrics
All the clouds are black
Mother is cried out
Someone else broke my fall
I don't remember
Internationally bastardised
Internationally tongue-tied
The truth is I'm not sorry
It's bigger than the both of us
A pillar of salt, a box of want
You were pulled out of the embers
It was never my intention
All the clouds are black
Mother is cried out
Summertime has come and gone
All used up with wishful thinking
Get sussed out, get cynical
In this world there are no second chances
Crawling round on all fours
Curl yourself into a circle
I will tear myself apart
If you promise to paint me
As a work of art
You don't need to preach to me
I'm a believer baby
You don't need to preach to me
I'm a believer
If you want lies I can tell them
If you want lies I got 'em
All the pennies in the Thames
Will not make it how it was
Always new depths
Mother is cried out
Someone else broke my fall
I don't remember
Internationally bastardised
Internationally tongue-tied
The truth is I'm not sorry
It's bigger than the both of us
A pillar of salt, a box of want
You were pulled out of the embers
It was never my intention
All the clouds are black
Mother is cried out
All used up with wishful thinking

Bloc Party is so awesome. They almost make me wish I was British. Lol.
AMAZING song! don't really know what it's about though... this part is so like me:
Summertime has come and gone All used up with wishful thinking Get sussed out, get cynical In this world there are no second chances

i like this bit:
"All the pennies in the Thames Will not make it how it was "
I know not wwhy.
errmmy... i've not heard this song, was just checking out lyrics, but i htink I no a bit of this: the pilar of salt bit...in the bible, theers the story of sossom and gemorrah, basically, the mother of lot's family looked back at the ity, which wa basically representing evei...liek have a second thought about it...and she turned into a pillar of salt, or so the bible says, i think the dues trying to say, i belive what i belive, ou belive what you belive, u dnt have to preach to me coz i belive, just not the same as u basicallu.. kinda cynical.. almost saying he bible is a loada crap really.. like "in this world there are no second chances" basically defying the message of the bible which is primarily forgivenes...but at the sam etime, it sems abit kinda i wish i coudl belive that, but i cant, coz this worlds to cynical and back biting and unforgiving...anywho thats my rant over.. any suggestions?
very good song, especially the chorus. nice
I see this song as the speaker not wanting to make excuses for something theyve done. They also dont want to apologize for what theyve done because thats who they are.
Someone wants to forgive the speaker and give them a second chance, but the speaker knows theyre not going to change and wants no sympathy. They are trying to push the other person away, maybe because they dont want to hurt them anymore. Deep down the speaker might actually care though.
A good parallel to this that comes to mind is the relationship in Good Will Hunting.
Freakin awesome song.
suicide
the entire song works towards it
summertime has come and gone , years of life
this whole segment below should be obvious

I agree with the last comment, it's definately about suicide. Is it just me, but do alot of bloc party's songs have a depression theme, shes hearing voices and this modern love and things?
depression's too easy! There's certainly that sense of angst you might attribute to depression and suicide, but i think you've tried to pull out too much of a literal meaning. I think this song's definitely about something he's done and maybe regretting and getting bitter about, and that may be something specific, but you could certainly take what you want from this song and apply it elsewhere, which is what makes it so great! one of bloc party's best, easily.

i think its about having no faith in love, being really cynical, about love, life and everything...its all wishful thinking now. its almost like they're saying we'll do anything to get by, to get it over with.
