Long Way to Go Lyrics
We've got a long way to go
When snow hits the asphalt, cold looks and bad talk come
We've got a long way to go
It's beyond Martin Luther, upgrade computer
Her/His skin wasn't the same color as mine
But she/he was fine, she/he was fine
If all men are made equal
Then she/he was fine, she/he was fine
Up until the time we went out on a date
I was fine, I was fine
Now I'm getting dirty looks, I wonder what they'd say
If we were blind, we were blind people
We've got a long way to go
When snow hits the asphalt, cold looks and bad talk come
We've got a long way to go
It's beyond Martin Luther, upgrade computer
We've got a long way to go
When snow hits the asphalt, cold looks and bad talk come
We've got a long way to go
It's beyond Martin Luther, upgrade computer
Beauty is beauty, whether it's black or white
Yellow or green baby, you know what I mean
What if Picasso only used one color
There shouldn't be a rule, how to choose your lover
Lovers in love is such a wonderful thing
Maybe in time, we'll get together and sing
I really hope so, there's nothing wrong with this picture
We got a long way to go, we gotta get there quicker
We've got a long way to go
When snow hits the asphalt, cold looks and bad talk come
We've got a long way to go
It's beyond Martin Luther, upgrade computer
We've got a long way to go
When snow hits the asphalt, cold looks and bad talk come
We've got a long way to go
It's beyond Martin Luther, upgrade computer
What color is love [3x]
We've got a long way to go
When snow hits the asphalt, cold looks and bad talk come
We've got a long way to go
It's beyond Martin Luther, upgrade computer
We've got a long way to go

We've got a long way to go
It's beyond Martin Luther, upgrade computer

This is with Andrè 3000, and... it's about seeing past skin color.
yeah, its about not judging people, and how children need to be taught a an early age not to judge someone by their skin color. good song! :)
peace M
anything andre 3000 makes is great, love this
People need not be so shallow when choosing someone they love. If you love them, no matter what color skin they are, creed, sexual orientation or anything like that. Love goes beyond what the outside shows.
word
your all shit, its about discrimination towards interracial relationships "snow hits the asphalt"
DERRR...
Elles: How many people actually think of the original Martin Luther when the name "Martin Luther" is mentioned? Present company is excluded of course. In this day and age when someone hears the name Martin Luther they more often think of the civil rights movement and associate it with Martin Luther King / Jr. than of the reform of the catholic church and nailing grievances on a church door. Music is about the flow. Add a king in the 'Beyond Martin Luther' lines and you've screwed the flow of that line up. Bottom line, most people pretty much get the gist that the song means MLK because almost everyone knows that the 'orginal' Martin Luther probably didn't care a bit about interracial relationships and equality. Just deal with it.
hahaha it actually threw me off a little, as well, when i heard "it's beyond martin luther." now that i've heard the song more than once and know what the song's talking about, i know which one andre is talking about. this is a great song, though, despite its overall depressing message. let's not forget that although we have a long way to go, we've also come very far.
You can tell that she meant Martin Luther King Jr because of the last lines in the song (tho they don't sound very clear). They come from his famous speech "I Have A Dream" in 1963 (if you haven't heard of it go and read or listen to it now! and I'm not even American XP) and I think they might have used sound clips from it, it sounds very like his actual speech (or from what I've heard from audio on the Internet).
What does the line "upgrade computer" actually mean? The opening of the song DOES sound like some kind of robot or computer speaking, but I feel more like it was thrown in just to rhyme with "Luther". Everytime I hear the song it always feels out of place.
I think "upgrade computer" means that people should upgrade their opinion about this interracial thing. Upgrade your mind, your brain, your computer...
