Sunset Soon Forgotten Lyrics

Be this sunset soon forgotten
Your brothers left here shaved and crazy
We've learned to hide our bottles in the well
And what's worth keeping, sun still sinkin'

Down and down
Once again
Down and down
Gone again

Be this sunset, one for keeping
This June bug street sings low and lovely
Those Band-Aid children chased your dog away
She runs, returning, sun still sinkin'

Down and down
Once again
Down and down
Gone again

I love this song, it is about really cherishing something, but also just enjoying it while it is there.

this is my favorite song on Our Endless Numbered Days! though i'm not really sure what it's about.

seems to me like a generic love song, but then he's all talking about forgetting the sunset and stuff... dang, Sam! i still love you.

this is a wonderful wonderful song. it captures so beautifully the faint echoing memory of a time you remember simply for its ordinariness, or because for one reason or another it occurred to you that you might someday forget.

that said. what's with sam and the dogs? this song, cinder & smoke, jezebel... always with the dogs. i don't get it...

It's probably about childhood memories involving sunsets. We don't remember every sunset live through, but there are the occasional that are symbolic to us for some reason or just because it's that damn beautiful. Great song, Sam Beam rocks...

2 evenings, one rather to forget, one worth keeping (maybe 2 ways at looking at same day?) both suns go down and are gone

the melody and arrangement of this one is sweet. i agree with sam samson that the two stanzas kind of oppose eachother, the first that it's for nothing, the second that it's beautiful. excellent song tho.

I think this one goes a bit deeper than just old memories, more into what Sam Samson was saying. I think that the song is about the purity of childhood, and how much greater it is than the sinfulness of "growing up." In the first stanza, it seems that there was some sort of party with crazyass frat boys or something. The sunset was spent drunk and whatnot, prompting the "Be this sunset soon forgotten." The second stanza is obviously much more innocent, largely hinted by the chasing of June-bugs. In short, "Be this sunset one for keeping." Much more enjoyed in its simplicity and innocence.
