First of all, I love the reference to the Hour of Bewilderbeast song "Another Pearl" even though it's strange that he can acknowledge that there might be another pearl but seemingly only one "hand that fits the glove". It just seems to be about someone who's looking for real love but feels cynical sometimes when he sees that love rarely lasts (past 2 years, for example). It's keeping the optimism, the belief in true love despite the sordid situations of many around him.
