The Wreckage Lyrics
Speeding into the horizon
Dreaming of the sirens
Wishing for broken glass on a highway
It could be so easy
The rhythm, rhythm of an engine
Always makes me empty
See the headlights coming at me
Can't help but wonder
Flying, flying in slow motion
The wind through my hair
And ripping through the scenery
Of the wreckage
It is my secret need
Uh, uh, uh...
Speeding into the horizon
Dreaming of the sirens
Wishing for broken glass on a highway
It could be so easy
Dreaming of the sirens
Wishing for broken glass on a highway
It could be so easy
Always makes me empty
See the headlights coming at me
Can't help but wonder
The wind through my hair
And ripping through the scenery
Of the wreckage
It is my secret need
Dreaming of the sirens
Wishing for broken glass on a highway
It could be so easy

Its almost a death wish, like she wants to crash the car. "Wishing for broken glass on a highway" & "It is my secret need". Maybe shes just contemplating how easy it would be to have a car crash.
Vanessa said in a magazine about her song 'Little Mary' from her unreleased album that she was always fascinated with death. And a car crash can go either way: Life or death. So these feelings, the imagery. She wants to experience everything before death comes.
I just came back from a concert of hers .. she says that this song came to her because she usually has fender benders in her car because she speeds so fast .. and that when she's on a highway with heavy traffic .. she feels like going against the oncoming traffic ... not really about suicide though .. which is what she said .
Vanessa said herself somewhere, that when she gets in a car, she has the urge to crash and this is the song which reflects this
this to me sounds like a car drive. and i think maybe nessa was in a car crash..because it mentions:"wishing for broken glass on a highway" and i think that when she says :"it could be so easy" its kinda like she knew that she could've avoided it.
i think it's a song about suicide. i'm not saying she wants to commit suicide.. but maybe she wrote it when she was sad and deppressed. i mean she did go through that stage where she didn't eat and excisercised. but the song is still very mysterious and interesting. i love her!
Yeah, it seems kiiind of like a song about suicide...It's like death is so fast, and unpredictable, and well, easy, and can happen anytime, and she's just wishing it would happen.
Well, I don't think necessarily has to be about her wanting to die, it could be about someone else or just a feeling of deep sorrow.
It doesn't sound like suicide to me, but it does sound like a car crash. Like maybe she was in a car crash and the people she was in the car with got hurt more seriously than her or died and it could have been just as easy for her to die, and now she feels bad because it could have been her instead of them. But I agree with the thing about death happening any time. That makes sense.
i think that the song is about wishing for death. it doesn't necessarily mean that SHE was suicidal when she wrote it, it's possible to write things you don't know exactly. to me, it sounds like someone contemplating how easy it could be for everything to be over... but never like they can take the steps to actually do it. the song sounds like it's a situation that could be the end "she" prays for but is too afraid to follow through on on her own.
