Full Of Stars Lyrics
I'm going to get me a bone today
Under this big blue sky
Under the tree where my last love laid
Now where beneath the leaves she lies
I'm going to dig a deep hole
And Crack open this bone
See where all the wonder went
See where now it's all gone
Look at the light, it's full of stars
What's really happening? something wonderful
It's not as bad as I was told, to lose all that was loved
It's the demons who drag you down but the angels pull you up
Don't let the colours bring you down
They'll get much brighter one day
You know all things will come around
If you leave them in their sway
I'm going to save it all in these photographs
Keep something here for me
When I'm dead and gone I'll laugh last
At what's left here to see
Under this big blue sky
Under the tree where my last love laid
Now where beneath the leaves she lies
I'm going to dig a deep hole
And Crack open this bone
See where all the wonder went
See where now it's all gone
What's really happening? something wonderful
It's not as bad as I was told, to lose all that was loved
It's the demons who drag you down but the angels pull you up
They'll get much brighter one day
You know all things will come around
If you leave them in their sway
I'm going to save it all in these photographs
Keep something here for me
When I'm dead and gone I'll laugh last
At what's left here to see

Spot the 2001:A Space Odyssey reference or even 2010:Odyssey Two.....
"Look at the light, it's full of stars What's really ahppening? something wonderful"
Sounds to me like it's from the scene where David Bowman is entering the Monolith near Jupiter and says "My God, it's full of stars!" - and also when David comes back to Heywood Floyd and when asked "What's going to happen?" he simply replies, "Something wonderful!"
I can see how the "Odyssey" reference fits, but somehow I don't think it's really relevant in the lyrics, even if it was intended. To me this song just tells a story about love & loss, and the "light" is simply an image of death or the afterlife as the narrator imagines it.
This song has nothing to do with 2001: A Space Odyssey. The first few lines of the song explain it all. It's a man sitting under a tree where the bones of his deceased lover are and proceeds to dig them up. A bit of a reference that this may be a song about necrophilia.
