Ghost Of A Shark Lyrics

I'm gonna leave any minute
See the skyline disappear
Head out of the city
Burn my clothes, bury my fears
Oh, you will never know I was here

Tell me now, is there difference
Between a shark and the ghost of a shark
'Cause all I have are secrets
And memories of the dark
Oh, rip away the skin, burn my heart

I'm gonna leave any minute
Another skyline disappears
Sunlight in the mirror
Blinding me all these years
Oh, am I coming back...?
I'll never leave

Tom himself said " Another London song really. Living here is like watching a loved-one die, not of old age, or gracefully decaying, but being literally kicked to death by a succession of government hooligans. One day, Tony Blair will get back from his day job as White House bidet and find that everyone's fucked off to Baghdad because the weather's better and the threat of being gassed is nothing compared to the Central Line at rush hour. It's also a song about living in Hackney and being scared of sharks."

this was the first (of many) tom mcrae songs to really grab me. There is a certain sense of mystery and emotion to this song that really makes it incredible despite its simplicity. The descriptions of leaving the city (london) life while they dont seem amazing by themselves combine with the music to make something very good. This was one of my favourite songs for a very long time, it makes me feel a certain way which few other songs can do (just like 2nd law by tom). Very good song, i wish more people could hear tom mcrae, he is a rare talent

I know this sounds cheesey but, as I was listening to this song I was reflecting on the book I had just read by journalist Jon Krakauer- Into The Wild. It's about Chris McCandless a twenty some year old guy "from a well-to-do family [who] hitchhiked to Alaska and walked alone into the wilderness north of Mt. McKinley. He Had given his entire $25,000 in savings to charity, abandoned his car and most of his possessions, burned all the cash in his wallet, and invented a new life for himself..."

This song sounds eerily reminescent of the story, and although Chris died up in Alaska on his own and latter part of his life may have been based on nothing but youthfull fantasies, I can't help but want something like that for myself.

Anyways, the song, even though that's not what it's about, still feels as if it's calling me to some sort of life like that. Seems as though the majority of my own life has been based in fantasy as most of the great memories in my mind are of things I've read or seen or saw or heard about but never experienced.

Oh Well...

Tom has such a haunting voice, its a shame that more people don't know about him.

This song made me think of brokeback mountian. I know it has nothing to do with that but it just sounded like the kind of song you would listen to before you ran off into the wilderness with your lover.

make any sense?
