Spongebob and Patrick Confront the Psychic Wall of Energy Lyrics

Patrick, you see, I'm growing a mustache
And though I know I must ask you
Does it really make me look like a man?

SpongeBob, being a manager's a tough job
I hope you're picked to be the best sponge boss we've had
Working like a dog at the Krusty Krab

Now wait a minute
I think we hit a wall
I think we hit a psychic wall

Maybe we're just young
And we won't know 'til we're old
Too young to free ourselves
From this lonely fish bowl

Some kind of wall
Some kind of psychic wall
Some kind of wall
Some kind of psychic wall
We can get above

Come on, let's find a way to be happy
Not like Plankton, he will never be satisfied
Always complaining about his life

To his computer wife
You think he would've found by now
To be thought of as a king
You don't need a crown

The funny thing is, if there wasn't a movie or a Spongebob at all, this would still have a chance of being a Flaming Lips song.

Okay guys I'm a little late to the party, but here's what I think:

I think this song represents Spongebob and Patrick trying to make the most of their life while they still could, and growing old they want to remain happy, viewing Plankton as a worse case scenario to life, he's arrogant, vindictive, and as the song said, "will never be satisfied". Plankton represents what Spongebob and Patrick don't want to become, so they decide to be happier in life, even if it makes them look like a kid.

Oh lord. I can see how the FL's wrote a song for that movie, but for god'sake, Wilco and The Shins? They must have lost some horrible bet. The Flaming Lips were probably like, "Hey, guess what? We can write twenty songs in a minute while standing on each other's shoulders and jumping rope." Shins/Wilco: "Pshaw. You cannot." FL: "Can so! If we can, you have to write a song for the Spongebob movie. We are." Shins/Wilco: "It's a deal!"

I saw the FL's preformance of this song on Conan O'Brian or one of those late-night shows... it was sort of lame for the FL's, I have to admit. His pink rubber boots made me sad... I don't like pink.

The FL's are invincible, though. They'll kick your ass any day.

I LOVE this song! I think it's incredibly profound, but of course it doesn't seem that way because it's a Spongebob song. My interpretation --

"Patrick, you see I'm growing a mustache And though I know I must ask you Does it really make me look like a man?"

Spongebob wants to know if growing a mustache (LOOKING like a grown-up) will really make him BE a grown-up.

"Spongebob, being a manager's a tough job I hope you're picked You'll be the best sponge boss they've had Working like a dog at the Krusty Krab"

Patrick answers that being a man(ager) -- being a real adult with responsibilities -- is tough. It's so much more than just looking the part. In the TV show, Spongebob LOVES working at the Krusty Krab. He does his job because he loves it, not because he wants money or power. Interesting side note -- Wayne Coyne worked at a fast food joint for 12 years before the Lips. I interpret this line to mean that you have to love what you're doing with your life and work with zeal at it (no matter what your personal "Krusty Krab" might be). That kind of living is what it means to be a real adult.

"Now wait a minute I think we hit a wall I think we hit a psychic wall"

Psychic wall -- mental block.

"Maybe we're just young And we won't know until we're old Too young to free ourselves from this lonely fishbowl"

I take these lines to mean that life can be tough. We might hate our jobs, have troubles with loved ones, get into conflicts with friends. Life can be lonely and when we suffer, we suffer alone. But maybe, the song is saying, we're still too young to know all the answers as to why life can be so unfair. It's only when we're "old" (but then again when do we ever consider ourselves "old"?) that we can find the answers. I take this line to mean that maybe we'll ALWAYS be too young to know the exact answers to life and why life can be crappy and lonely sometimes.

"Some kind of wall Some kind of psychic wall Some kind of wall Some kind of psychic wall we can't get above"

We don't know everything. We will never know everything. We will never have everything we want. I take the "psychic wall" to mean the inability to enjoy life for what it is.

"Come on, let's find a way to be happy Not like Plankton He'll never be satisfied Always complaining about his life To his computer wife You'd think he would have found by now To be thought of as a king You don't need a crown"

Now the song's saying, screw it. Instead of dwelling needlessly on life's miseries and demanding answers, we should just try to be happy. You'll never be happy complaining all the time and being dissatisfied with what you're missing. To be a king, you don't need loads of money or recognition, you just need to be like Spongebob who loves his "lowly" job as a fry cook, works hard, has fun, stays positive, and savors every moment of his life. :)

At first, I didn't like this song at all. But it's starting to grow on me. Ocean Man by Ween is also on the soundtrack.

SpongeBob SquarePants is as weird and smart as The Flaming Lips' music. I'm more of a FL fan than SpongeBob, of course.

I love how it just tis into the movie so well- literally. It is the movie's story. my mum adn I heard it on the radio before the movie came out, then when we went to see it we waited till they played it. It was only in the credits- I was a little bummed but still... I love this song. I love the bubbles at the end. I was listening to this song last night and the bubbles came on and I was instantly calmed. Cool.
