Are You Gonna Wait Forever? Lyrics

All the obstacles in my way, now
Are disappearing every day, now
I'm getting closer
We're getting closer to home
It won't be long until the summer comes

Are you gonna wait forever?
Are you gonna wait forever?

Getting out from under my bed, now
I'm going to say the things I should have said, now
Getting closer
Getting closer to what's true
Gonna find myself in you

Are you gonna wait forever?
Are you gonna wait forever?
Are you gonna wait forever?
Are you gonna wait forever?

There's no one there behind their eyes
They're in the business, beautiful lies
We'll keep the promise
'Cause we don't know how to break it
The furniture you can rearrange
Don't trade your dreams for some small change
Guard the flame, or better leave it naked

Are you gonna wait forever?
Are you gonna wait forever?
Are you gonna wait forever?
How?
Are you gonna wait forever?
How, how long, how long?
Or is it now, now, now?
Or is it now?

u2hype: "Has anybody noticed how very similar it sounds to "All Because of You"? The guitar, especially in the beginning is almost exact"

That's often the case with b-sides because U2's songwriting process is often non-linear, they jam and record what they do and then they go back and start refining each of those things into tunes... what happens is pieces of songs show up again in unused tracks or in earlier versions of songs...

As an example, "Always" is musically almost identical to "Beautiful Day," and "Lady With the Spinning Head" ends almost the same was as "The Fly."

To add to that, "Fire" evolved from "Saturday night" and "Vertigo" from "native son".

This song is brilliant. Whenever I'm contemplating or avoiding doing something I dread I just put it on, and Bono puts up a damn good arguement and convinces me lol.

Wow, this is one of those times that I feel like bono's speaking to me specifically through his lyrics. There's this girl that I've adored for a really long time, and just up until recently she was with someone else. Now she just became single, and I have to get my act together because she leaves forever this summer. Now I have to "get out from under my bed, and say the things I should have said, now."

It's amazing how sometimes U2 lyris describe my life to a fine point. I guess bono's just that amazing...

@Dr. D Awesome finding someone that 13 years ago was thinking and feeling the same about this song! I do really hope what Bono has described has become real for you :) Now I find myself in the same situation you where and this songs "forces" me to get out from under my bed

I heard this song is a B-Side to the Vertigo single. Its a pretty good song, which is basically asking if you're going to wait forever before you do something you have been meaning to.

The lyric "dont trade your dreams for some small change" hits me. Very nice lyric thats saying that you shouldnt give up on dreams for something thats much less in value.

The overall message behind this song is positive.

The Edge plays some great guitar on this song. Its not like his usual riffs current to the HTDAAB album, but its still awesome. It further proves that U2 can continue to evolve into the future.

You're absolutely right, Keyser. I would only add that "Lady With The Spinning Head" is for the most part based on the same guitar riff as "Light My Way."
