Resignation Superman

This song is about his hero. His hero is gone, and I can't believe that Superman would give up fighting crime just to sit at home and chill with a lady. Can u blame him though?

It seems to me that this song is about religion and how people use it conveniently. Now that "Superman"/God is gone and turned his back on the world, because he has "broke his back on this world" and dealt with "suffering and vice" and has grown tired. The way the chorus is sung "Oh Lord..." is almost like a cry or prayer. He is gone, they're suffering and now people want to believe in him. But was there as much faith while he was there?

i almost thought it was more, maybe about christopher reeve-Superman,broke my back on this world, resignation=paralysis and the God stuff was his and our collective faith-perhaps a duality, that might be way off but i had always connected the song with that tragedy b/c the time period was close

I take it literally. Superman is THE iconic figure of doing 'the right thing'. He ALWAYS finds a way, ALWAYS does the right thing. Even when the world turns against him, he is the comic book world of the 'perfect man' (i.e. Jesus in the comic book world). So, it is unthinkable to have such a character do it. That is why this song is enjoyable. To think that the world goes SO rotten, even an unbreakable man has his limits and just walks away. For those comic book people, "Kingdom Come" is about just that. He walks away from mankind due to mankind walking away from him. They turn in their ethics for what they believe the world to be. So, he turns his cape in. He walks away from them. He watches them on TV; seeing the world go to sht and says 'not my problem'. Both the song and the comic book are powerful.
