Weary Memory Lyrics
Found your mittens behind a box of pictures
You would wear them before I brewed the tea
That's one memory I can easily conjure
A weary memory I can always see
Found your rosary broken into pieces
Every night, by the bed, you'd kiss the beads
Those are moments that I can always relive
Weary memories I can always see
Found a photo of you when we were married
Leaning back on a broken willow tree
That's one memory that I choose to carry
A weary memory I can always see
You would wear them before I brewed the tea
That's one memory I can easily conjure
A weary memory I can always see
Every night, by the bed, you'd kiss the beads
Those are moments that I can always relive
Weary memories I can always see
Leaning back on a broken willow tree
That's one memory that I choose to carry
A weary memory I can always see

someone called this one of their favorite love songs.
Pretty straight-forward. There are all these things of a woman he has loved that has died, or left him, but death seems more like it. Cool song. Reminds me of NY. (Neil Young)
Its definitely a love song.. lost love .. song
The singer must be very close to his mother...I believe that is who he is singing too...after he has lost her. But why are his memories weary? And why is he only chosing some memories to carry? Was it a challenging relationship...or did she linger on her death bed?
the first two memories seem to be of little daily routines that the loved one had. these memories would tend to be recalled more often than others, as they would be triggered by his daily routine (e.g. each time he made a cup of tea or went to bed).
disagree with the mother theory ("found a photo of you when we were married"), unless by "married" he means when his mother was visibly pregnant.
what i'm curious about is the rosary "broken into pieces". seems strange that an important item would be broken.
this song is a bout a man, remembering his love. he'll find something, common things, and it will remind himself of different moments he had with his love. i do think this, love of his is dead. He chooses these memories to carry with him, through out his life.
This song is gorgeous. Sitting underneath a big tree by the lake side with a good friend; recalling all of the "remember whens?".
It's so pretty.
I agree with McGandhi really. I don't think the song's about his mother, it's almost certainly about a partner.
The rosary beads being broken go with the idea that she's died. A lot of people turn their backs on religion when a loved one passes away. She kissed the beads every night before going to bed, and now she's gone and he's left alone, so out of anger he tosses the beads aside and shatters them, and a few months later he finds them again and they envoke the memory that's always there.
At least that's what my mind's eye sees :] very beautiful song
it couldn't be about his mother, because it says, "Found a photo of you when we were married".
I see it as him remembering his love that died or left him, and the memories of her are burned so strongly into his mind that he can 'easily conjure' them at a moment's notice.
I agree with most of the posts that this song is about a love lost to death, "Found your rosary broken into pieces". Just as Nienna pointed out, it would make sense that after she died he would turn his back on religion and break the beads.
This song is so gorgeous, I have it on repeat haha :P
