An Angry Blade Lyrics
Who left you so?
Striking a match for the keyhole
Dark as the evening laid
When he left you all alone
Turning to fade through the sawgrass
Tall as the only love
That you'll ever really know
Who left you so?
Grace is a gift for the fallen, dear
You're an angry blade and you're brave
But you're all alone
Turning a shade of an angel born
In a bramble ditch when the doors
Of heaven closed
Dark as the evening laid
When he left you all alone
Tall as the only love
That you'll ever really know
You're an angry blade and you're brave
But you're all alone
In a bramble ditch when the doors
Of heaven closed

"Grace is a gift for the fallen, dear You're an angry blade and you're brave But you're all alone"
That's a beautiful line. It speaks of healing that comes when you allow it to. But her anger is keeping healing from her. He then likens her to a fallen angel in the next stanze. It's amazing song-writing.
He doesn't want me.
A song about loving someone andthe sting of not being loved back..
the lyrics "turning a shade of an angel born in a bramble ditch when the doors of heaven closed" are amazing..one of the best things about SB's early work is to paint imagery of the old south thruout his songs no matter what the story is..
I love how short and concise the lyrics are and how simple the sound is, but how heavy the message is regardless of the soft singing voice.
AMAZING
I think this song is about a woman whose been jilted. It has that same menace as "The Rooster Moans" and it makes me think of ex-lovers whenever I hear it. The words and the strumming truly describes that emotion that perfectly describes what it is to be jilted. Great stuff all the way around. Sam Beam rules.
Awesome song.
