Rumors Of My Demise Have Been Greatly Exaggerated Lyrics
[Verse 1]
So please don't ask me how
I ended up at my wits end and breaking down
Pages torn from books we never read,
'Cause we're plugged into this grid
Don't pull this plug right now,
Or then we really have to live
[Pre-chorus]
When I die, will they remember not
What I did, but what I haven't done?
It's not the end, that I fear with each breath
It's life that scares me to death
[Chorus]
When we built these dreams on sand,
How they all slipped through our hands
And this might be our only chance
Let's take this one day at a time
I'll hold your hand if you hold mine
The time that we kill keeps us alive
[Verse 2]
Your words won't save me now
I'm at the edge, feeling the sweat drip from my brow
Get a grip on yourself is what they say,
Every hour every day
Hands over my ears,
I've been screaming all these years
[Pre-chorus/Chorus]
[Bridge]
We came in search of answers
We left empty handed again
Shots fired into the sky
Are now returning
Where the fuck will you hide?
(Hiding) Hiding from the laughter
In the closets of our life
But the door hinges are squeaking,
Letting in thin shards of light
And now, our hands extending outward,
Quiet comfort, they invite
Do we dare take what they offer?
Do we step into the light?
[Pre-chorus/Chorus]
[Chorus]
So please don't ask me how
I ended up at my wits end and breaking down
Pages torn from books we never read,
'Cause we're plugged into this grid

My first comment on SongMeanings, believe it or not...
One of my favourite songs of my favourite band, Rumors of My Demise is about your dreams, and being daring enough to fulfill them.
Sort of reminds me of a book I had to read for school this year, Fahrenheit 451. Boring as sh*t but it did raise some good issues and discussion.
"So please don't ask me how I ended up at my wits end and breaking down. Pages torn from books we've never read Cuz we're plugged into this grid. Don't pull this plug right now, Or then we'd really have to live."
Sick of the closet of his life, but afraid to exit it and follow his dreams. I think that;
"But the door hinges are squeaking, letting in thin shards of light. Now a hand's extending outwards, quiet comfort they invite. Do we dare take what they offer, do we step into the light?"
refers to a glimpse of the life of his dreams (a thin shard of light shining through the door hinges of the closet) and an opportunity, a hand extending outwards to open the closet door.
The closet itself, is the hole/cave/state of security that the guy lives in to hide from his fear of his dreams.
When I die will they remember not, What I did but what I haven't done. It's not the end that I fear with each breath, It's life that scares me to death.
A MESSAGE! Wake up people, look at your lives. Nothing. Change it, think of what you could do, the difference you could make and have the guts to make that difference, even if it means going against what the majority believe. "It's life that scares me to death --- Don't pull this plug right now or we'd really have to live" Again, afraid of completeing his dreams
Truly awesome song!
ps. There's a fair few errors in the lyrics ^ Not too bad for self written lyrics though
pps. The verses/choruses at the start-middle of the song seem uncertain, yet notice how at the end of the song those same words seem afraid but determined, encouraging and daring. Also the end lyrics are in the perfect position to end the album.
I believe this song means bite the bullet, suck it up, and don't give a shit what anyone says about it.
how could this possibly be about being heartbroken?...much less "obviously". i'm speechless.
the song says "Pages torn from books we never read, 'Cause we're plugged into this grid. Don't pull this plug right now, Or then we really have to live." usually "plugged in to the grid" is a refeance to technology books we never read could be a point were books are obsolete
also the lyrics "What I did, but what I haven't done. It's not the end, that I fear with each breathe. It's life that scares me to death..." could also state that its how you live you life that defines who you are. to lead a life of harmony but risk.
I think that this song is partially about not fulfilling your dreams. Just Letting opportunities pass you by.
this is the best song ever written in the history of mankind.
"The time that we kill keeps us alive"
what does this part mean, anyone?
that mean that if you spend your time fulfilling your dreams instead of "killing" it-than you can say that you are really leaving your life. It's something like "simply because you can breathe doesn't mean that you are alive or that you really live."- Rise against (Black Masks And Gasoline)

if i had to guess... the time that we kill (aka the things that we do while we're alive "killing time") is what keeps us alive. in other words, life wouldn't be worth living if we didn't do anything while we were here.
what the fuck. this is one of their greatest songs. Why hasn't anyone posted
The title of this song is something Mark Twain said. I just thought that I'd tell ya'll that random fact.
