There's No Solution Lyrics
maybe nothing else will ever be so clear
or maybe that's only my fear
if just for one day I wish I could disappear
just take me far from here
maybe I'd find out nothing new
maybe I'd end up just like you
there's no solution
give me truth to my conviction
is my own confusion
reality or fiction
am I out of my mind
this constant pressure that keeps hanging over me
it makes me feel so empty
it's more than anything that I could ever be
what else could you take from me
it's getting harder to relate
don't want to make the same mistakes
there's no solution
give me truth to my conviction
is my own confusion
reality or fiction
am I out of my mind
it took me so long to find out it's right
there in front of me
too close to see
what I thought was true
I see right through what's killing you
there's no solution
give me truth to my conviction
is my own confusion
reality or fiction
am I out of my mind
so maybe nothing else will ever be so clear
or maybe that's only my fear
(am I out of my mind)
if just for one day I wish I could disappear
just take me far from here

I think this song is about a guy and his relationship with his girlfriend...
Verse 1 This verse is very cryptic in the beginning, yet it gets cleared up at the end. She has standards that he is expected to meet, but is afriad that he won't be able to meet these standards. He wants to get away from them, but because he truely has feelings for her, he doesn't know whether he wants to leave for a long time, or just for a day to clear his mind. He wants to find either a way to deal with these standards or a way to change so he can become these standards. All of these things show that he is indecisive about everything.
Verse 2 He is constantly pressured to live up to the impossible standards that she holds him to. Because of this, he feels like he fails, or feels "empty." Yet, he still tries to live up to these standards, so it changes him and his character. After the standards have changed these things, they cannot change anything else, so he has reached his limit. Also, because he cannot live up to these standards, she begins to stray away from him, making it "harder to relate." Again, he feels as though he has failed at the same things over and over again.
Verse 3 He finally realizes how he can solve the problem of their relationship. Because he is the one who keeps failing and it is causing her to push away, by removing himself from the relationship (thus ending it). He is the solution.
Verse 4 Now the meaning of the same words has changed (which i think is one of the best literary/poetic techniques). He is now confident that he can end the dilemma by ending the relationship, but he has such strong feelings for her that he is afraid to let her go. Because of this new dilemma (and thus starting the paradox of the song), he wishes it could be taken out of his hands.
this is one of those songs that i think allmost perfectly descrives how i feel. He[the artist] can't figure out the right thing to do. and there is an element of uncertainty to everything, as in, "It's my own confusion reality or fiction" whether of not he is way off track, or knows exactly what's going on. He also talks about being unable to ever acheive the expectations that they or he believes. Then he thinks he has found the answer, but the last verse returns the chaos and uncertainty that has been tormenting him.
He's reeling with thoughts of confusion about what to do, and there's always a doubt. And when he thinks he has it, he doesn't, hence the "there's no solution". There is no happy ending, and that it's always going to be that way. In the end, he just wants to get away from it all because all he can see for himself is constant failure.
Heh, this is one of my fave Sum 41 songs... Anyways, I kind of agree with the others, but take it a step farther, kind of like some crap's been going on in his life and he's hit rock bottom, but is confused on where to go from there, and feels like all the options that he has are all pointless...
This song is my favorite on "Chuck". I, for one, have no idea what it means. That is why I come to this site.
I think it means like theres no happy ending to this world or his life.
pretty much what they^^ said. he's confused. everything's going wrong and there doesnt seem to be a way to get away from it.
