John Henry Split My Heart Lyrics
Stood on the 66 highway
I stood on the 66 highway
Wysteria, Magnolia beside the green line track
Said "don't come back"
I found myself standing on the mountain
I found myself standing on the mountain
Beneath my full moon heart
John Henry split this heart, split this full moon heart
John Henry split this heart, split this full moon heart
Swing the heaviest hammer you got
Hit this one out of the park
John Henry split my heart
He says, "Boy what you going to do
With your heart in two?"
"Boy what you going to do
With your heart in two?"
If it's good enough
Only if it's good enough
If it's good enough
But only if it's good enough
Half, I'm going to use
To pay this band
Half, I'm saving
'Cause I'm gonna owe them
Long dark blues
Long dark blues
Big star is falling
Long dark blues
Will o' the wisp
Long dark blues
I stood on the 66 highway
Wysteria, Magnolia beside the green line track
Said "don't come back"
I found myself standing on the mountain
Beneath my full moon heart
John Henry split this heart, split this full moon heart
John Henry split this heart, split this full moon heart
Hit this one out of the park
John Henry split my heart
With your heart in two?"
"Boy what you going to do
With your heart in two?"
Only if it's good enough
If it's good enough
But only if it's good enough
To pay this band
Half, I'm saving
'Cause I'm gonna owe them
Long dark blues
Long dark blues
Big star is falling
Long dark blues
Will o' the wisp
Long dark blues

Fucking amazing, like the perfect song to accompany the perfect Western never made...
"Half I'm saving 'cause I'm gonna owe him..."
the reprise of the "long dark blues" at the end of this song is fucking perfect. I floored it in my car the first time I heard it.
"green line track" is almost certainly a reference to the Chicago L's Green Line, which runs from the far south side into downtown, and then out west into the near suburbs. Since I grew up near the green line tracks, I like this song a lot for that line.
@akagoldfish and 66 highway is likely a reference to Route 66, which starts with Ogden Ave. in Chicago as well. Jason Molina had a practice space at the time on Lake St. along the Green Line, I think near the intersection with Ogden, so yeah. Totally.
