She's A Thief Lyrics
you put on your raincoat
cause it looks like it just might today
and you grab your keys
you're out the door
before you know where you're going.
if blame, as they say, is for god and little kids
then you're deserving of praise or a slap on the wrist
cause you can't help but blame yourself
for your long face
not a day passes that you don't fold your hands
and ask St. Francis to find the lust for life
that you lost when she left
with your tounge and your last breath
she's a thief with an eye for nice things
not a day passes that you don't close your eyes
and ask St. Francis to find the love of your life
that you lost when she left
you dumb fuck, your life's a mess
without her to tell you what to say
or when to breathe
or what you'll need
or where you're going.
cause it looks like it just might today
and you grab your keys
you're out the door
before you know where you're going.
then you're deserving of praise or a slap on the wrist
cause you can't help but blame yourself
for your long face
and ask St. Francis to find the lust for life
that you lost when she left
with your tounge and your last breath
she's a thief with an eye for nice things
and ask St. Francis to find the love of your life
that you lost when she left
you dumb fuck, your life's a mess
without her to tell you what to say
or when to breathe
or what you'll need
or where you're going.

Mike tends to write a lot about the demise of a relationship and the guilt that it seems to have on him (or any other guy/girl) same as in 'ghost of what should have been' and 'nobody's nothing' especially, with lines like 'you’re still dealing with her leaving, it’s a shame, but you’ve only yourself to blame.' which pretty much is the prequel, if you will, to 'she's a thief' this song sounds beautiful and is straightforward. and the line, 'she's a thief with an eye for nice things' and the little guitar jangle that follows gets me right here
::points to heart::
can't wait for the new record.

In this song, all of the blame is placed solely on the guy, as seen in the second stanza. He needs to accept that it's his fault for letting the relationship end/go sour. This is emphasized by the strong choice of words at the end: "You dumb fuck."
I can't understand why he chooses St. Francis in this song, however.
Great song.
Normally, in Catholicism at least, you pray to St. Anthony when you lose something you want help in finding. Maybe he just said St. Francis because he couldn't remember which saint you're supposed to pray for. Great song, pretty self explanatory.
"if blame, as they say, is for god and little kids then you're deserving of praise or a slap on the wrist cause you can't help but blame yourself for your long face"
Wow. Simply, wow.
beautiful
this is proof that 'emo' can still be wonderful.
St. Francis lived his life under the vows of poverty and chastity....It's a pun. 'Not a day passes that you dont...ask St. Francis to find the lust...'
my absolute favorite. this kills me.
owen songs are the best to listen to when you're feeling particularly self-piteous.
"she's a thief with an eye for nice things" god.. he's brilliant.
