in a interview sara said, "The last song on the record is dedicated to people who are alone. I mean, like alone and you stub your toe and you fall on the ground and you sob hysterically into the ground and you are like, 'What is wrong with my life?'"

the last song on the record is 'i can't take it'

i agree with the first comment, its such a sad song, especially because of the repetitive aspect. seems like the whole "so move....dont move so slow" thing is about trying to get the other person to get into a relationship with them and she has "nowhere to go" other than wanting this person. i hope that kinda made sense haha. anyways, really good song.

This is one of Sara's songs, but Tegan did an interview in 2005 where she sort of explained each song from the album. This is what she said about "I Can't Take It":

"This is another song like I was saying earlier that when Sara wrote "I Bet It Stung", she wrote several different songs in a series. There was "Under Your Arm" and "Get It While You Can", and "I Can't Take It" was right at the end. So that's another song that got on that was from that series of songs she wrote. When we were doing interviews for our bio, I described hearing that song for the first time to be like Sara was standing on my chest. I just felt really sad, and that was having heard all the other songs in order leading up to that one. I know that when Sara was writing these songs it was during the end of her relationship and it was someone she'd been friends with for almost ten years and been with for four years. It was just the psyche of it, when you've known someone for half your life, literally, and then have to leave them, and not necessarily because you want to but just because it's the right thing to do, and it's just not healthy and you're not good anymore, there's no growth and you have to have growth. And when I hear that song, the idea of that all happening just makes me sick to my stomach a little bit. But it's in an enjoyable way." http://www.teganandsara.org/library/interviews/d_2005.xx.xx_p_sonyconnect.html

i think reading that made it even sadder than i thought it was before.

Story of my life.

This is one of those songs that I want to hear when I feel like I'm the only person in the entire world. I listened to this song a lot when I had absolutely no idea what to do with my life after graduation and I have to say that I really found comfort because it felt like someone else had been in that situation, too.

I feel like the whole song is about feeling miserable and stuck with one's own life/love/whatever it may be, that things are starting to get unbearable "I can't take it" and the phrase "don't move so slow" is meant for the "I" person as a reminder that it's time to do something about the situation.

Basically, my girlfriend, for almost a year, is moving in a week and a half after we graduate, and we're breaking up because she doesn't want the committment.

"So move..."

My parents are moving out of the country shortly after and I won't have a place to live. I'm not close to anyone in my family and my friends aren't reliable.

"I've got nowhere to go"

I'm so anxious and mad about everything that I've been pushing everything close to me out. It's come to the point where I'm beginning to resent my girlfriend so I actually want her to leave, yet when she does it's gonna break my heart more than anything...

"Don't move so slow.."

I hate everything about what's going on in my life right now that..

"I can't take it."

My life story.

this song makes my heart hurt. i think sara's just trying to tell someone that she's waiting for them, but the other person is taking so long to get close to her and it's driving her crazy.

Have you noticed that because all of their songs are so repetitive, they get stuck in your head for hours? **anyway, maybe she's talking about getting stuck in her car behind someone slow and they won't get out of the way. that would relate to me...

agreed.

she's putting herself out there saying she's not going anywhere. her waiting's been so long she's damn near the point of breaking. this song makes me heavy inside.

the vulnerablility and honesty in t&s songs is just so raw, it's hard NOT to feel.
