You Wouldn't Like Me

Dude i'm like ninety five percent sure it's just about self doubt and not being content with yourself. Not sure where this online relationship stuff came from.

You know when you are with someone, either dating or getting close to that stage, and even though you are with the person and may be having a great time, you may still have that paranoia that the person doesn't like you as much as you like them, or they may not see all your cute little idiosyncracies the same way you do.

Sometimes it can be quite a serious neurosis, always self deprecating, especially if you have been in a bad relationship in the past, you sometimes stop yourself from edging forwards into really committing to the person. If it's all new and things are just getting started, it's more difficult to pour out your head and heart so it just makes it more difficult to know what the other person is thinking.

That is what I think this song is about. It comes as such a surprise when your other actually says something otherwise to what you have been thinking. I wasn't sure if the girl I had started seeing liked me, or if she was serious about me, or if she had it in her head already that she wanted to end things (as we sometimes do, but don't know how to) and one night we were lying there talking about each other and how things had happened so fast and she said "I feel like I can only be happy when I'm with you". It really shocked me :)

I wasn't sure what to make of these lines:

It does work with my theory above - it is just a 'safety', a way of not taking that full commitment that she tells herself in case things don't work out?

makes it sound like some sort of internet relationship/long distance...or they really don't know the real girl. but that's just me :/

It has to be about some long distance/online relationship.

Possibly the person was in love with this person online, and then maybe they met, and he realized he didn't like her? Or possibly she's just saying that since she doesn't like herself, how could anyone else like her?

She mentions that he doesn't call anymore, and it's bringing her down, but there's still time, and she washes the windows, waiting for this person to come by.

GEEEEEEEE l always thought it was about self identity problems and not knowing who they are and that they were putting up a front mostly and that if they ever let this facade down then they would be appauled at whatever they found, as maybe they have some skeletons in the closet and issues with being upfront...................

to me, its about being scared to get to know your self

i dont really think its about a long distance/online relationship like some of you said. i think its not that literal and its not that they actually havent met the person. i think its more about being afraid to show ones real self to someone because what if they dont like it? i know thats something lots of people worry about, me included. it sucks that people do hide their real selves, but it does happen, and i think this song expresses it really well.
