Am I sleeping with my eyes wide?
Am I alone?
Am I staring into bright lights?
Have I gone home?
I must be dreaming that I'm sitting here
On someone else's throne
Am I sleeping with my eyes wide?
Won't you let me know
Will I wake to find you waiting by my bedside?
Will I wake to find you waiting by my side?
Am I sleeping with my eyes wide?
Am I alone?
Am I following the lines on a face that's never shown?
I wanna see your hairline and cheekbones
Your red lips on your cell phone
Won't you let me know?
Will I wake to find you waiting by my bedside?
Will I wake to find you waiting by my side?
Am I alone?
Am I staring into bright lights?
Have I gone home?
On someone else's throne
Am I sleeping with my eyes wide?
Won't you let me know
Will I wake to find you waiting by my side?
Am I alone?
Am I following the lines on a face that's never shown?
Your red lips on your cell phone
Won't you let me know?
Will I wake to find you waiting by my side?

this song is about a certain disbelief.. "Am I sleeping with my eyes wide? Am I alone? Am I staring into bright lights? Have I gone home?" these questions show that he does not know if he's dreaming things up or perhaps hallucinating.. he doesn't know if he's alone or not.. so he's really wondering about these questions because of a certain person (duh) "I must be dreaming that I'm sitting here On someone else's throne" thrones are for kings.. he feels like a king, he feels like he's dreaming about being very important, dreaming about this girl is making him feel like he's on top of the world "Will I wake to find you waiting by my bedside? Will I wake to find you waiting by my side?" he wonders if he's dreaming about reality or maybe he's wanting his dream to come true "Am I following the lines on a face that's never shown?" the person he's thinking about might not even be real or discovered yet (as in he hasn't met her) all in all, this song is about him wanting to meet the girl of his dreams, or maybe he has someone in mind, but he can't believe it's real
i like how copeland kind of mellowed out the beginning of the record with this song. the opening "No one really wins" totally gets me tapping on the dashboard. then "sleep" comes on and i can breathe (and stop mowing over old ladies). the raw sound of the vocals reminds me a lot of ben folds, as does the piano. however, lyrically copeland is so much more poetic. the cellphone line annoys me though. the whole song sounds lovely and mature, and then i hear cellphone and feel like a loser teenager listening to badly written emo. but they redeem themselves with the awesomeness of the rest of the song, so i still think its one of the best on the album.
11 comments and not a single one talkign about the meaning of the song. You guys suck. i don't give a fuck what you like about how it sounds unless you provide a meaning, hah.
Anyways, the song writer is feeling like they dont know exactly who they are, as if they have to find themselves, and the first few lines describe that.
Then, the next few verses like" will i wake to find you waiting by my bedside" and "am i following the lines on a face never shown" are saying, well, he's wondering if he is seeing who she truely is,. and once he finds himself will he finds that she has really been there for him all along or she was someone different that who he thinks she is.
I liked this song right when i heard it, and i saw them live right on my birthday, it was amazing. I just recieved liek the serious full effect and why i can relate to it so much yesterday. I'm trying to find myself right now, and who i will find at my bedside when i wake up.
"Am I sleeping with my eyes wide? "I must be dreaming that I'm sitting here On someone else's throne" God's ??
I think the song is about death and him wondering if his girlfriend will be at his side at the time of his death. Beautiful song. I love the Ben Folds sound on this.
"I must be dremaing when im sitting here in someone elses clothes" is actually "I must be dreaming when I'm sitting here on someone else's throne."
and..
"I want to see my hairline My Cheek bones My Red Lips My Cell Phone Wont you let me know?"
is actually
"I wanna see your hairline, and cheekbones, and red lips, and cell phone."

and your lyrics are wrong. It's: "I want to see your hairline, and cheekbones. Your red lips, on your cell phone."
