Your Sweet Voice

The first time I really listened to this song, meaning the entire thing, word for word, was the exact time in my life when it could not have made more sense.

My situation was a crush I had that, in truth, I knew really wouldn't work, but I allowed myself to be tricked (by other people and myself) that it could work. I spent all this time and effort chasing this person, knowing deep down that she didn't much care for me beyond being friends. Well, when it finally became obvious to her that I really liked her, she of course let me know that, no, she wasn't interested.

I felt so rejected that I got angry and, almost, indignant. I told her I don't think I can be friends with you. All those words in the first half of the song...exactly how I felt.

And then...I really listened to this song one day thinking about the situation. And I realized that I couldn't hold a grudge any longer and I really missed just being friends, because she was such a sweetheart.

And I was a little drunk that night...but I sent her the last verse of this song and told her that I thought of her when I heard that, and can we just talk because I missed her so much. And the next day I saw her in person for the first time and we shared the most genuine hug I think I've ever had. That was all the closure I needed from her. She's happily married now and I'm happy for her.

This is the most fabulous song of all time.

I love love love this song so much, it's so relative to things that I've been through. It makes me cry everytime it gets to the "Can I call you my friend?" line. It's so lovely.

This song touches nerves for me, hurts and makes my eyes misty. Interesting how he initially says 'dont worry i wont call you' (sob) then says 'can i call you my friend?".. making a telehone call ? or label her a friend? hmm

I love this song... so beautiful.

I miss talking to someone special the same way. I miss his voice in my ear at night.

This song is the best song gary lightbody has ever written in my opinion, its just so heartfelt, its one of the few songs i can really feel exactly how he was when he wrote it.

This song sometimes depresses me. but there is no doubt i still absolutely love it at the same time. I'm not sure how come across these guys, but i cant believe there arent more comments about there songs, because they are one of the best bands ive ever heard.

This song does often make me cry. I am a sensitive guy, and the following part of the song somes me up well.

'cause when I take a hint, I take it pretty hard And when you broke my heart You broke it into shards of glass

Also, me and my ex girlfreind, who i miss very dearly, used to spend some much time talking together, and when we split, i missed the phone calls.

Ehhh I've lost my best friend yesterday...... I'm so sad :((( She was so pretty and wise..... and it ends now. Now I listen this song and remember all of our phone calls and talks but mow my phone keeps silent.

It's so hard for me, actually she left me to die and I don't know why ;( I was living so long and during this 1 year I have got only HOPE.....

This song helps me very much, is so calm and I relax when I'm listening it. It's a pity that so small group of people comment this meaning of "Your sweet voice" :(

Amazing, beautiful, ... not enough strong words to describe this song.

I agree that this is probably the best song that Gary Lightbody has ever written. I can take or leave Snow Patrol but i just cannot get enough of the two reindeer section albums. shame that now snow patrol have gone big that there probably won't be another one.

There will be another section album. I emailed them and they said that Gary has written a number of songs, but they just need to get everyone together to record it. Lightbody still obviously cares about doing songs with his mates.
