Save Your Day Lyrics
Poke the body with a stick, roll it down
Ignore the moaning as it tumbles to the ground
Be brave and save your day
These days are cold, numbers rule I've been told
The pattern's clear, better fit in the mold
You need to be brave and save your day
You need to be brave and save your day
To cough up sympathy isn't hard but it costs
Hold tight to your life savings
You have to do what you must
to save your day
So poke the body and roll it down
The grave looks cold but we're still young
We're still young
Ignore the moaning as it tumbles to the ground
Be brave and save your day
The pattern's clear, better fit in the mold
You need to be brave and save your day
Hold tight to your life savings
You have to do what you must
to save your day
The grave looks cold but we're still young
We're still young

this song makes me feel so liberated. but it makes me so incredibly sad too. we really are still young
Just can't believe having roamed this sight for a while that no one has anything to say about this song! My favourite from the album and its mainly the lyrics which make it such a god song. It for me sums up the genius of Jose, in being both hauntingly sinister such as "Poke the body with a sick/ Roll it down/ Ignore the moaning as it tumbles to the ground" and simultaneously comfortably uplifting "Be brave and save your day". Finishes as beautifully as it starts ominously "the grave looks cold but were still young/ Were still young". Great stuff.
its amazing, but its so short... this is a song that i just want to last forever
"But we're still young. We're still young" - These lines together with José's guitar twist my insides every time I hear them. Awesome stuff.
the song is about attaching yourself to someone you can no longer help - enablement, perhaps. its about how you can try to save someone all you want but sometimes you just end up losing yourself in that person's problems.
"Poke the body with a stick Roll it down Ignore the moaning as it tumbles to the ground Be brave and save your day"
"To cough up sympathy isn't hard but it costs"
->for some people, it isn't hard to pity someone and immerse yourself in their pain but it can end up tearing you apart
-> you can't destroy yourself
-> he's saying let go of that person no matter how painful it may be because they're "dead" and you're being brought down with them
I think this song is about letting go of something or perhaps someone. That no matter how hard it is, you must take the correct action and you will be ok.
I get a different take. I think this is an indictment on selfishness and personal convenience. In dealing with the body, he does the opposite of the "good samaritan" in order to save time or not be inconvenienced, etc. so he "saves his day." Coughing up sympathy puts it into a negative light. You don't want to do it, and you COULD do it, but there is a price. Better not to and "save your day." Fit into the mold, look out for yourself, hold on to your material belongings, etc.

yeh i agree this song probably the best on the cd just so many emotions that you feel whenever this song is playing you can't describe anything like it
even when what your doing may be the worste thing be brave a hold on. its not easy, it'll cost you but be brave and you'll save your day.
I think it's about doing things you don't always want to, to get along in life.
It describes a terrible act, we presume that the person has attempted to kill someone?
You have to ignore the 'moaning as it tumbles to the ground' to 'save your day', in other words to help yourself.
'You have to do what you must' perhaps to stay alive as hinted at in the last line 'the grave looks cold but we're still young' - a reassurance that it's the right decision.
