Asleep on a Sunbeam Lyrics
When the half light makes for a clearer view
Sleep a little more if you want to
But restlessness has seized me now, it’s true
I could watch the dreams flicker in your eyes
Lying here asleep on a sunbeam
I wonder if you realize you fascinate me so
Think about a new destination
If you think you need inspiration
Roll out the map and mark it with a pin
I will follow every direction
Just lace up your shoes
While I’m fetching a sleeping bag, a tent . . . .
Another summer’s passing by
All I need is somewhere I feel the grass beneath my feet
A walk on sand, a fire I can warm my hands
My joy will be complete
I thought about a new destination
I’m never short of new inspiration
Roll out the map and mark it with a gin
Made my plans to conquer the country
I’m waiting for you to get out of your situation
With your job and with your life
All I need is somewhere I feel the grass beneath my feet
A walk on sand
A fire, I can warm my hands
My joy will be complete
Sleep a little more if you want to
But restlessness has seized me now, it’s true
I could watch the dreams flicker in your eyes
Lying here asleep on a sunbeam
I wonder if you realize you fascinate me so
If you think you need inspiration
Roll out the map and mark it with a pin
I will follow every direction
Just lace up your shoes
While I’m fetching a sleeping bag, a tent . . . .
All I need is somewhere I feel the grass beneath my feet
A walk on sand, a fire I can warm my hands
My joy will be complete
I’m never short of new inspiration
Roll out the map and mark it with a gin
Made my plans to conquer the country
I’m waiting for you to get out of your situation
With your job and with your life
A walk on sand
A fire, I can warm my hands
My joy will be complete

this song makes me want to escape! Go on holidays with someone special. It's a very happy song!
This is one of the easiest B&S lyrics to interpret. It's about a couple deciding to go on a camping trip. What a great subject for a song. No one can ever accuse B&S of being pretentious.
I really like this song too! it's a great morning song, I put it on when I get up. It seems like a really happy song but there is one line that gets in the way..
I am waiting for you to get out of your situation With your job and with your LIFE
I don't think it's as simple as a couple deciding to go on a camping trip. I think it might be about a couple who just need a break from the lives they are living.
that is isobel campbell singing, right? I would assume it is, except I thought she left the band in 2002 and this was released to 2003
I feel like it's not about a camping trip. Right now I listen to it because I think of the importance of spontaneity in a relationship, to be able to "waste the summer" packing up on a whim to somewhere where you can simply "feel the grass beneath your feet". I think it's cute. The sleeping bag and tent seem like symbols when they sing it, not physical objects.
This song means loads to me because I met my boyfriend on a camping trip and I listened to it a lot that weekend! =P This is just such a beautiful song I could listen to it over and over and it always give me a warm fuzzy feeling! XD
1.) okay, what an idiot I am, of course this is Sarah singing, when I posted that I had just started listening to B&S. btw, Sarah's stuff with the band is way better than Isobel's, imo
2.) maybe this is more about camping just on the surface, but really it's talking about the idea of sort of "getting out" of one's life for a while? the whole thing has an escapist feel, and it sounds like she (the singer) is waiting for a significant other to get out of his current situation so they can escape together. just my thoughts.
i really think this is my favorite song ever. it reminds me of those perfect days when i'm content in taking a break from life.
'another summer's passing by..." don't forego the chance
It just stirs such happy feelings...
Waking up and seeing the one you love, lying barefoot in the grass with them...
Kind of a lazy relaxation song. It's amazing.
