The Kirkwoods both attended Catholic school in Phoenix, and they have described their childhood as "messed up". A lot of their songs (and cover art) contain references to monsters, vampires, etc., which I believe always refer to pedophile priests. I think Kurt and Chris were both molested by a priest or priests. If one keeps this in mind, the meaning of the lyrics in "Attacked by Monsters" becomes quite clear.
