I cant believe anyone hasnt commented on this song! Its a big song in New Zealand anyway The song uses an analogy of a ship sinking to show how God keeps us afloat I ike the line They've been swimming in the wrong waters
Yeah, just re-discovered this song after going through my iTunes. Great lyrics really, once you really look into them. Can relate to love, God and anyone in need really. Too bad it never reached the other side of the world (Im in Aus btw =P) really deserves more credit. Im surprised she hasnt done much in Aus. either. Ah wells. Guess the world just isn't ready for songwriters like this.
This song is amazing! I've loved Brooke Fraser's work for some time now and this song has never really spoken to me until i've experienced its emotions first hand! The way I see it, this song is about someone who's friends have backslided away from god and they are trying not to be pulled in by the temptation but know they have already began to fall in. However this person is trying desperately to cling tight to god who will pull them out into safety.

it is like they have begun to be drawn in by the 'waters', like they are turning to things they never agreed to. It holds them back from reaching god.

that person has been around the wrong crowd, into a state of temptation and they realise what they've done wrong so they get down on their knees and repent. They may not have even done anything wrong but being so...exposed to the wrong doings of people they thought they knew makes them feel covered in filth!
basically the song is saying, hold tight to god. when you know something isnt right, stick with him and he'll keep you strong, be your rock and all. anyway, you can agree or disagree but this is what it means to me at this current point in time. Absolutely Beautiful! WOW!
