Wish You Were Here

I don't think this song has anything to do with cheating. The meaning of this song is a very simple one. He had no idea he was dying, and it's not about terrorism b/c it was written a few years before 9/11.

Simply the guy is getting on plane, probably for a business trip. What I got from the song was that the man bought a postcard that he planned on sending to her when he reached his destination, saying how much he missed her and wished she was with him.

The plane crashes, but somehow the woman manages to get the postcard. I love this song because the postcard and the words the man writes song like he is talking about a vacation spot,

"The weather's nice, it's paradise It's summertime all year and there's some folks we know They say, "Hello, I miss you so, wish you were here", but are also a description of heaven, where he is now. She can feel secure knowing that he is in paradise with people they knew(who remember her and say hello).

I don't think that this song is about a terrorist blowing up a plane. I my opinion, it is about a guy who gets on a plane to go somewhere (maybe a business trip) and he buys a postcard and writes how much he loves her and misses her. It seems as though the plane crashes and she still manages to get that postcard he intended to send. And, whatever he wrote on the postcard seemed like he was literally writing it from HEAVEN.

On Monday, February 25, 2008, my husband left Nashville TN to fly north on a business trip. He would be gone 5 days. He called from Atlanta on a short layover and plane change. He was in good spirits, asked me to call and confirm his car rental and to make sure someone would still be at the rental booth (he was arriving late). He then called when he landed to let me know he had arrived safely but again asked me to call the car rental company to let them know he was in the airport. I did as he asked but there was no answer this time. I assumed they were busy and did not think any more about it since I had already confirmed the information earlier in the day. The next time my phone rang, I expected to hear my husband's voice - but instead heard the sound of an unfamiliar male voice tell me that my husband had suffered a fatal massive heart attack. I sat alone in our bedroom, in shock at what I had just heard. My life as I knew it had just changed forever. This song is one he and I had heard years before his death but I just thought about it again today. Oh, how I wish we could be together again - the way it was but that is not an option. The words to this song are so very clear to me that those who leave this life before us will always remain in our hearts and memory forever. Regardless of what the writers intentions were when writing these lyrics, the words will speak volumes to those who hear it with their heart.

This is one of the saddest songs I've ever heard. Ever. The man buys a postcard to send to his wife when he lands at his destination (Let's say Mexico). His plane crashes, he's killed and the postcard makes its way to the wife. And like another poster said, the destination (which is never mentioned) changes from Mexico to heaven in her eyes. This is gives her a little comfort because he not only did he get to tell her that he loved her once more, she knows that he's okaye.

The lyrics/story are WRONG. It's a great song, but the songwriter messed up pretty badly. The song writer is saying that he bought a postcard at the terminal where he was leaving to go to his beach island destination, 1. why would they sell postcards there for that destination? 2. Why on earth would he fill the postcard out, before he even gets to his destination and in his postcard, explain what it looks like and that all of the people miss her. HE IS NOT THERE YET! In a sense, it would seem as though he is trying to cover something up, because he cannot write these things, because he never made it to his destination. Its partial bad song writing is what it is. All the songwriter had to do was have the plane crash on the way back home. But they could probably not get the syllables to lineup or the words to rhyme. There is always a way to make it work, the songwriter just hoped that anybody listening would look past it. Sounds like 99% of the population did LOL. Although it was not meant to be that way, I do see why somebody is saying that it sounded like he was going to go cheat on his wife. Because why would he feel out the postcard on the plane talking about things that he sees and what people are saying when he's not even there yet? But that is not the case, it's just a lyric blunder. And you know the plane does not crash coming back, because she gets a call that night that the plane went down. That night, being the day that he left. The plane never reached it's destination.

Yes, as many people have said, once he dies, his words or as if he is in heaven. I think that goes without saying. The problem is, he never made it to the first Heaven, which would be the island destination. The plane crashed and he died. Maybe he made it to the real heaven above with angels and such, but the postcard should never have been filled out, because he did not have the information to fill it out yet . He is saying things like he is hanging out there, and people are saying how much they miss her and that they wishe she was there. And he's explaining the weather and everything. Huge blunder. Hard to believe that these lyrics were ever finalized and approved. If I missing something, somebody please let me know.

The first part of this song is straight forward. But when it gets to the part when it says, “He bought a postcard on the front it just said heaven,” is where the song gets confusing. Why would he buy a postcard before he even leaves the airport? It sounds like he knew that the plane was going to go down. And why would he send it before he left? It’s like he was going to make the plane go down. And it sounds like he is describing the place he hopes he will go. The things he wants to happen when he goes up. Why else would he buy a postcard that says heaven and write about paradise? He didn’t leave the airport before writing on the postcard, so it was like that is what he wanted his wife to remember. He wanted her to have his last words.

Apparantly this song is about a terrorist blowing up a plane, because how else would he know the plane would crash? Seriously, it doesnt make sense, but if you can get past that its a really sweet song.

Hmm, well I think it could mean like two things. Either 1: He was cheating on her and had just bought a postcard at the airport to give to her and sent it, and then on the way back from where-ever he was meeting his chick he died in a plane crash. So she still got the postcard. lol Which I hope isn't it, because the song is so darn sweet.

Or, it was like, he was sending her a post card from "heaven" and kinda telling her that everything was ok and he missed her. :)
