This song i think is about someone who just can't deal with things. They get into the habit that everytime something bothers them, they just push it to the back of their mind and move on. Then they start feeling like the way they feel about things doesn't mean anything anyway. Things can only stay in the back of your mind for so long. They come back to haunt you in the long run. You start feeling like you are spinning out of control. And everything turns into a fog. ("faces blurred") Making you feel alone and out of control, but you can't tell anyone and get it off your chest because you feel like no one cares. ("feelings mean nothing" "im feeling so lonely")
considering his friend and lifelong love, kate, just recently die, im guessing the song has to do with her... 'people's faces burnt out' refers to death, and he's realizing that eventually in time all the feelings of loss and sadness will just fade away, but today, now that its on his mind, its eating away at him, but feelings dont matter anymore now that she's gone, so he just spends his time somewhere lost in his own mind, so he doesnt have to worry bout the pain

To me this song is all about letting go.
It's like he's telling you how to let go of the past, and forget all the care and worry that you had of people in your life. That perhaps some of us care too much and need to let go.

This stanza is beautiful. He's saying that don't let the memories get to you of a tragic past and move forward. That in time, all those emotions from the past will fade away. And wasting his mind on today is his way of saying live for the moment.

I think that it may have something to do with good memories too. He is saying how he will eventually forget some of the memories and he doesn't want to.

i def. think this song is about letting go of someone that meant a lot...i'm sure he wrote it about kate...it's so relateable...the second time he repeats "Close my eyes and move to the back of my mind feelings mean nothing..." is so powerful...i think he's saying that it doesn't matter what you're thinking if you can't do anything to change it...so you should just cut your losses and move on with life...it's a sad but sorta inspirational song~
