Word Up (Cameo cover) Lyrics
Oh
Oh
Yo, pretty ladies around the world
Got a weird thing to show you
So tell all the boys and girls
Tell your brother, your sister
And your mama too
We're about to go down
And you know just what to do
Wave your hands in the air
Like you don't care
Glide by the people
As they start to look and stare
Do your dance, do your dance
Do your dance quick, mama
Come on baby
Tell me what's the word
Chorus
Word up (up, up), everybody say
When you hear the call
You've got to get it underway
Word up (up, up)
It's the code word
No matter where you say it
You know that you'll be heard
Now all you sucker DJ's
Who think you're fly
There's got to be a reason
And we know the reason why
You try to put on those airs
And act real cool
But you got to realize
That you're acting like fools
If there's music we can use it
We're free to dance
We don't have the time for
Psychological romance
No romance, no romance
No romance for me, mama
Come on baby
Tell me what's the word
Chorus
Oh
Oh
Chorus (x2)
Oh

KoRn has been my favorite band for 5 years. A friend of mine got me into them, I got everything they already had out, and then bought Untoucahbles and Mirror when they came out. I agree with a lot of what has been said here about bands changing and stuff. I agree woth sadistic sniper, except that maybe KoRn took "Word Up" a little more seriously than he thinks. I mean, keep in mind the techno remix of "Here to Stay" as a bonus track on some certain Untouchable albums, as well as the remix of "Freak on a Leash" on their greatest hits albums. "Alone I Break" kind of has a poppy sound to it as well. I don't think these songs are attempts of KoRn to reach out to a poppy audience looking for cash. Is your average teeny-bobber really gonna buy KoRn's greatest hits album because it as an old-school funk cover on it? I think it is Korn having fun, playing what they feel like covering. There is a lot of hip hop on some Korn songs, and hip hop was a stem off of funk. I wouldn't doubt if "Word Up" was something Korn listened to before they were the band we know and love. Korn is a band that has hardcore dedicated followers, which is their fan base. They don't have the strength in numbers that other bands of similar success may have. If you don't like the covers, and already have the other 17 songs on Greatest Hits on various other albums, then don't buy the CD. Don't lose respect for the best, most innovative band since Pink Floyd. (Btw I hope more of you guys like that cover than "Word Up". They did that beautifully. It sounds a lot like the origional, with a super dose of KoRn heaviness. Rock on)
oh my god!! why do people not like this song?? i think it is really kool!! i have loved koRn for years and think this cover is brilliant!!
Korn made their own shit, they were the leaders so they can do anything they want. This song could be softer than the main Korn's songs, but it's really good. It shows a Pop side of the band (Jonathan doesn't even scream a word in the whole track) and I think that's positive. I started to listened Korn when I was 14. I was young and angry and depressed so Korn was the perfect soundtrack for that phase of my life. Now I'm 19 and all that anger fade away. I've grown up and Korn too. You can't be pissed off your whole life. Jonathan made those tortured lyrics on 1994. Ten years ago!!!!! Think about it. You can't think or feel the same after ten years. And realize that Jon have a pretty good life now. Korn is not the same? Of course they're not! None of us it's the same after ten years of living. It's evolution, baby! (Pearl Jam dixit) Peace.
for all you that say that Korn has "sold out", should have split up by now, or "have the good life so they no longer care about music" - can stop posting your opinion here and go listen to something else. I have been listening to Korn since day one (1994) and I am now a 29 year old music lover who digs that Korn can do their "own" music now. Anyone who can't hear that doesn't know music or truly appreciate it. And for the last poster that said 'Take a look in the Mirror' could have been "made by any shitty new band", needs their head examined. Korn has an extremely original unique look and sound and they make everything they do their own. And as far as them changing. yeah they have - they are 10 years older now. I gaurantee you I'm still not doing the same shit I was 10 years ago! It's called growing, living, learning. do some of it.
You know what's the only thing that matters and which you have the right to say? It's whether you like the song or not. I'm really sick from all you people screaming "Our fav. band changed their style! THEY SUCK! NO!"
First of all, I suspect most of you know shit about music theory and therefore lack all knowledge to determine whether a song sucks or doesn't suck.
Second, do you want to have 500 songs sounding just like the debut or Issues or any other album you consider great, or have a variety of different songs? I prefer the variety.
Third, who the fuck are you to tell the band what to play? It's THEIR music. They can play whatever they want. If you don't like it, why don't you write your own music that YOU like. They like what they're doing, they're having fun. Writing music for a particular group of people[metal-fans, pop-fans, hip-hop-fans, whatever] is selling out, as opposed to writing music that you like.
In conclusion, you don't like it, don't listen to it. It's that simple.
yea it prolly is more personal but if u like korn or any band for that matter u hav to say they sold out rite from the start the second they signed the contract to a major label they knew wat was gona happen fame
damn you guys suck, starting to sound like fucking youtubers "this band sucks EMO IS BETTER" just shut the fuck up and speak about what it's about.
Sounds like they are taking a shot at DJ's
Looks at other commenters Wha...??? Scratches head Well, I liked it... They did a good job, I've heard the original. Oh, yeah, NOW I know why people hate this cover... THEY COVERED ONE SONG THAT SOUNDS DIFFERENT AND IS NOT ABOUT SOLID ANGER DEATH KILLING CUSSING SEX AND SOUNDS A LITTLE BIT POPISH/HIP-HOPISH, EVEN THOUGH THEY HAVE THE SAME GUITARS GROWLING!!! THEY HAVE CRAPPED OUT AND ARE UNLISTENABLE!! THEY'VE SOLD OUT!! THEY'RE SONGS ABSOLUTELY MUST BE SERIOUS!! NO FUN!! NO FUN FOR SOLID ANGER KORN!!
...You close-minded assholes. Let a band do what they want... I liked this! They have many different roots to their music, songs like this being one of them. They were just fooling around with the song before they released it, they thought it sounded cool, so they made it a track. 'Korn is going down'... yeah no that's not happening anytime soon, sorry. Rubyoverdiamonds... shut up. Korn added heaviness to the original. If you hate Korn, why comment?
Yeah, the song's about chicks and partying. Silence101, I totally agree with you. If they were true fans, they would shut up and enjoy it (I have all albums-- minus TALITM).
You haters have your opinions, and I have mine. I liked this, but I like heavy, screaming, punch-in-the-face, hatred, vengeful Korn too. Go Korn!
According to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Word_Up!_%28song%29): Lead singer Jonathan Davis has said of the band's decision to include the song on their greatest hits, "We've been doing 'Word Up' for years as a sound-check song - not the full version, just messing around with the riff"
korn has been my favorite band for as long as i can rememberbut i cannot stand this song.....why did they cover this shit? !
