Hourglass Lyrics
Privileged, a chosen few
Blessed with our time in hell
Witness a divine vision, the day we all fell still
Rapture of the dying age, a shattered hourglass
Wrath of the warring gods and so this too shall pass
It's only getting worse, not worth a moment's regret
Each dawn another curse, every breath a twisting blade
What will be left behind in the ashes of the wake?
An ill wind blows this way, the edge of the envelope burns
Forbearance and my vengeance, payment for your intent
Fear and death in the wings, in thrall of those fallen from grace
Petty is as petty does, witness the mass disgrace
God forbid you read the signs, watch for meanings between the lines
Gehenna has now arrived, no hindsight for the blind
Your trust has been misplaced, believed the lies told to your face
Became another casualty and now it's too late
You finally made it home
Draped in the flag that you fell for
And so it goes
The ashes of the wake
It's only getting worse...
Forbearance and my vengeance, payment for your intent
Fear and death in the wings, in thrall of those fallen from grace
Petty is as petty does, witness the mass disgrace
Gehenna has now arrived, no hindsight for the blind
Your trust has been misplaced, believed the lies told to your face
Became another casualty and now it's too late
Draped in the flag that you fell for
And so it goes
The ashes of the wake
It's only getting worse...

Ilikemetal: You are truely a moron. At least you are overt about it so we all know to just ignore you. Christian are no less close minded than anyone else and, for the most part, certainly less close minded than you.
As for this songs meaning: I think it probably was meant to be about Iraq. The whole album seems to be abou it in one way or another... I think most of the songs have a bit of double meaning though. I'm not sure if this one does.
On a sort of related note: I don't think too much of LOG's music is meant to convey a positive spiritual message. Here is a good metric for those of you thinking it might convey a Christian message. In any band's music if the songs contain one of these words then chances are the band is not made up of Christians: fuck, shit, cunt, goddamn. Now go back and read LOG's lyrics... Oh, some of those words appear in the lyrics... Now, research their old band name... Burn the Priest. How nice! Well, they sound like a Christian band to me!
That having been said, any band be it LOG or Marilyn Manson CAN in one or two songs convey a message that is approximately Christian. Most people aren't going to totally be against everything Christians stand for. Case in point the song Head Like a Hole by NiN. They aren't exactly a Christian band but the song just as well could be. Maybe the same thing w/ Omerta by LOG. Maybe Creeping Death by Metallica could be in that list too.
toolapc is the idiot, if you can't handle someone's interpretation then you shouldn't be posting. Different interpretations of a song is what this site is composed of.
Yeah, no shit. First off, we can tell you're retarded or residing in a rusted out trailor from your spelling and shit, ilikemetal. "Prey", "promices", "isent", you've gotta be kidding me. Second, holymetalhead is stating his fucking opinion, which is what this website is here for you ignorant douche. Oh yeah, Christianity doesn't "promice" death, it promises eternal life. So do everyone a favor and shut the fuck up, House on Wheels.
well the answer to me is obvious, it is about randy blithe's opininion regarding the war in iraq and the whole deal that's gone down in the middle east, but to me, a U.S. Navy Sailor, this song instills a sense of pride, both in myself, and those who serve along with me, they have the balls to go out and do things nobody else is willing to do, without knowing why or where, we just do as we're asked. the line, "you finally made it home, draped in the flag that you fell for," i realize nothing to me could be more beautiful, that if the worse should happen, i could have a burial worthy of an american serviceman. and despite the fact that "it's only getting worse" know that we're here and over there fighting only for you. not for bush, not for ourselves. for you.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA i LOVE you guys! your so cute and funny! especialy you adderd and globalchior its like you take a symple but very good song and twist it to your own foolish ideas i mean really? who gives a fuck? i havnt been to church in years but im not about to go burning them i mean all religions are the same you only attack christianity because thats the religion you were raised to be (and muslims would fucking kill you) if you have such a damn problem with it go and convert to buddism thats a very good religion (im seriouse do it there should be more buddists the world would be a better place)

intothevoid0208 are you twelve years old? This world is full of complete and utterly pathetic STUPID PEOPLE. Im surrounded by idiots. Everyone leaving LOG song meaning comments except for very few are prideful little shit bags (yes, bags of shit you all are). Fuck all of you close minded people who claim to appreciate music. Fuck YOU
i think its about Dubya's little crusade in the middle east and how the american public has been manipulated by the govenment.
"Witness a divine vision, the day we all fell still Rapture of the dying age, a shattered hourglass" - I believe is a refrence to 9/11. the catalyst or excuse for the invasion of Afganistan, Iraq and god knows where next.
"God forbid you read the signs, watch for meanings between the lines" and "no hindsight for the blind Your trust has been misplaced, believed the lies told to your face" this is the manipulation part. The public has been fooled into living in fear and therefore believeing all the lies fed to them by the govenment, and failing to read betwein the lines and see what the deal realy is. and dieing for thoes lies "You finally made it home, Draped in the flag that you fell for"
Definitly, Randy Blithe really really hates George Bush, which makes him even cooler as far as I am concerened.
It doesn't matter how much he hates him, its not going to change the war. What the hell should we have done over the 9/11 tradgedy? Nothing?
This song is about a soldier who goes to war and dies. Plain and simple. However, Randy believes that what the soldier was fighting for were lies instilled in him from some other source. (Most likey the Gvnt.)

I reckon that if we are discussing the meaning of the song, this statement implies just how important it is that Randy Blythe hates Dubya.
