In Every Dream Home a Heartache Lyrics

In every dream home a heartache
And every step I take
Takes me further from heaven
Is there a heaven?
I'd like to think so
Standards of living
They're rising daily
But home oh sweet home
It's only a saying
From bell push to faucet
In smart town apartment
The cottage is pretty
The main house a palace
Penthouse perfection
But what goes on
What to do there
Better pray there

Open plan living
Bungalow ranch style
All of it's comforts
Seem so essential
I bought you mail order
My plain wrapper baby
Your skin is like vinyl
The perfect companion
You float in my new pool
De luxe and delightful
Inflatable doll
My role is to serve you
Disposable darling
Can't throw you away now
Immortal and life size
My breath is inside you
I'll dress you up daily
And keep you till death sighs

Inflatable doll
Lover ungrateful
I blew up your body
But you blew my mind

Oh those heartaches
Dreamhome heartaches

Yes it is about having sex with a blow up doll; taking the idea of the emptiness of wealth without love to its ultimate menacing conclusion.

Sure it features a blow up doll but I think the previous two reviewers missed the point. Which is "In every dream home a heartache" - i.e. the doll is substitute for real love and happiness, a metahor for the rest of the material 'deluxe and delightfull' but ultimately 'lover ungrateful'.

i love this song... it's so satirical... the infatuation with materialism (literally) and the emptiness that holds...

this song will always be a treasure as long as people misplace their love like this

It's about emotional detachment that modern life brings. How humans fail to connect. The protagonist here talks about the heartache of lacking reciprocation from the doll even going as far as saying it is ungrateful. He yearns the company of a woman, he has everything but emotionally he's reduced fucking a doll.

This individual will either rape kids or kill himself or both. I've seen the news.

Y'all crack me up. Well, I have heard it said that Bryan was very house-proud, so it could be about that Mayfair perfection while meanwhile your personal life is going to hell in a handbasket and they are going through the motions. Sigh, how can we "Stick Together" and make our happy house a home!

this song is about people that have got everything in the world including money and all that money can buy but it cant buy you happiness, love and health. the guy petrayed in this song had everything now all that he is left with are material things that are worthless. The moral of the song is; hold onto the love and happiness you have because you cant buy it.

Don't want to bust your bubble but you have an over-inflated idea of your own ability to decipher Rock lyrics.

Obviously this song is about seeking God in prayer - seeking the Lord who has put His breath of life inside each one of us. A theological blow job, if you will...

Inflatable doll - geez. How on earth did you come up with THAT?

Seems pretty obvious to me what the song is about as well. Very kinky lyrics.

One of Ferry's most blunt lyrics. Lottery and X-Factor winners beware! It's not all about Money and fame. For further listening try "Can't Buy Me Love!" The live version is really quite chilling. Recommended!
