Hiss The Villain Lyrics

It's so early in our lives
For such a waste of time
Such a waste of breath
We can shake our fists in vain
Scream and lose our voice
It's our choice

This is forever
This ring will never leave this hand alone
I promise you

This is forever
This ring will never leave this hand again
I promise you

Hopefully life goes on
We'll meet up in the end
Worn out
We can sit and watch the world
Spinning on its point
Smile on it
These situations come and go
I'll do my best
We'll settle down and focus now
I'll do my best
I keep forgetting why we fought
We'll make amends somehow
Sitting next to you
You know the honor would be mine
To share your arguments
For all of time

this song is pretty strait forward. its about Jims marraige. hes dedicated and loves the chick and he doesnt want to waste breath or time so early in their lives

yeah, marriage, getting the most out of your married life

I think this song is about the parting of At The Drive-In. This is a song that Jim wrote for Cedric and Omar, because he didn/t believe that At The Drive-In should be done for.

i.e. Check out the song "A Plague Upon Your Hissing" by The Mars Volta.

yea maybe, mr shiver, maybe all the guys from atdi wear super cool rings and are in a special club...the chorus really contradicts your theory but to me the song does hint at some sort of parting, the second verse does support your theory but the chorus is too strong...

its about marriage...the last few lines are another dead give away..

Sitting next to you You know the honor would be mine To share your arguments For all of time

...you make sacrifices to make a marriage work..and the part about honor is a reflection of that. also what malley said about the chorus having a strong meaning leaning towards the subject of marriage is a valid point.

i think it must meanthey promised to pursue atdi forever and jim relates that to a mairrage. i dont think it is literally cause the last stanza is about parting and meeting up later. and mars voltas a plague upon you hissing the title alone is too perfect.

Sorry Malley and Circa but i have to agree with the idea that Jim is only using marriage as a metaphor for something signifying a strong bond. I have heard the theory that "Hiss the Villain" is a song about Jim's sorrow for ATDI parting.

This is forever This ring will never leave this hand again I promise you AND Hopefully life goes on We'll meet up in the end Worn out

These two sets i think make it very CLEAR that marriage is just a representation of something else and if you really do beleive that this song refers to ATDI breaking up then yeah it makes perfect sense. ATDI was what bonded them together, was the marriage they promised forever, and if you really want to stretch it you could say that the fact that JIM and CEDRIC both are singers relates to this line.

We can shake our fists in vain Scream and lose our voice

Ofcourse im sure it just refers to arguements but almost the entire ending to the songs points towards a resolution later in life and meeting up at the end. This alone strongly goes against your theory of a marriage, as in a marriage you work thru your problems till death but JIM is basically saying they will go on without one another(unlike in a marriage) and kinda displays a passing of time when he says

"i keep forgetting why we fought"

Only to finally froget all their grievances later on and be bigger men about it, in retrospect they can "smile on it" In my opinion these are JIMS hopes for the future of their relationship.

This song is an easier one to discover the meaning off. Its Jim telling his wife that he loves her and even though they fight he's gonna do his best to make sure everythings ok. The ring never leaving his hand alone is basicly saying he has duties as a husband and he doesn't plan on breaking them.

I just read Plague Upon Hissing. I seriously doubt it is in any way a retaliation to this song or vice-versa. I think it is about a marriage that failed. The ATDI break up theory just seems too farfetched for me.
