Ophelia Lyrics
There's still life in the heart
You're coming down; I'm going with you
It's easier in the soft light of the shimmery, shadow windows
And babe, I'd like you to meet someone
When you meet her, please be serious
She thinks it doesn't matter
If you're familiar with her sisters and her disease
I hate the one thing I need
I just don't trust you now baby
All over the leaves on the ground
I walk around
I'm late for hundreds of things
The walls are thin but I can't reach through them
I'm chasing dragons down the streets
My eyes are feeble and filled with poison
And babe, I'm just like the best thing
That could happen, happen to someone
Now I'm seething from the inside, cast it to the outside
Reaching your side of your cheeks
I hate the one thing I need
I just don't trust you now baby
All over the streets on the town
I walk around
You're coming down; I'm going with you
It's easier in the soft light of the shimmery, shadow windows
When you meet her, please be serious
She thinks it doesn't matter
If you're familiar with her sisters and her disease
I just don't trust you now baby
All over the leaves on the ground
I walk around
The walls are thin but I can't reach through them
I'm chasing dragons down the streets
My eyes are feeble and filled with poison
That could happen, happen to someone
Now I'm seething from the inside, cast it to the outside
Reaching your side of your cheeks
I just don't trust you now baby
All over the streets on the town
I walk around

I think you guys are a bit too quick to lump all these lyrics into the 'drug' category. This song is all Hamlet, and I'm sure it has personal implications for the singer, Marcus Congleton.
"There's still life in the heart." - Hamlet treats Ophelia like shit in the play, but once he finds out about her death, his true loving feelings come out.
"It's easier in the soft light of the shimmery, shadow windows" - The whole 'to be or not to be' soliloqy is about the advantages of suicide (easyness), and Ophelia dies by drowning herself. Shimmery shadow windows isn't a drug reference, it's a metaphor for water.
"I'm late for hundreds of things, the walls are thin but I can't reach through them" - Hamlet is a busy guy in this play. Lots of shit on his to do list, but he's slow, always wasting time talking to himself. His major goal, kill the king, is something he should be able to do easily, but he wastes his opportunities. The walls are thin. He can easily reach through them, but he doesn't. He procrastinates and acts crazy ("chasing dragons down the street"). If you read the play, everything else is obvious. Hamlet has 4 or 5 soliloquies, so this guy is obviously "seething from the inside"
This is a greatly written song. Admirable too. Marcus knows his shit, and he write's a hell of a song to put himself in the shoes of Hamlet. Still, I see absolutley no drug references.
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say this is drugs, and how awful it is to be addicted to them. "Chasing dragons down the streets" "I hate the one thing that I need"
Or maybe it's just about the fact that you really want something that you shouldn't/can't have, like Hamlet and Ophelia.
Ophelia was the daughter of Polonius in Hamlet. idk if that is relevent. but everytime i hear this song i always think of Hamlet and Ophelia
Yeah the Hamlet reference would make sense, given that there is no mention of Orphelia in the song and that the name is far from common in modernity. I think ThePython was right about the song being an expression of wanting something you should not have or cannot manage to take...great song.
dont know why i stuck an r in her hame...

this is a brilliantly written drug song...
in the beginning, it's "shimmering, shadowed windows"
and i thought it sounds more like: "now i'm seething from the inside, plastered to the outside reaching to your side of the sheets"
"i hate the one thing i need" reminds me of how i've felt in the past with love problems. rigth after relationships end, people sometimes hate their exs for making them so sad. so you hate the person, but really, theyre the only thing you need to function, and be ok again. the drug meaning makes sense too, but being a hopeless romantic as i am, i usually find love meanings before anything else.
I agree that its about chasing something you want, but I don't know about the drugs thing. Though a few of their songs seem to be about drugs, so maybe.
There is mention of the name Ophelia in the song. It's just not in the lyrics on here.
