Sea of Fire Lyrics
It won't go away
I try to hold on but my will ebbs like a tide
I'm drawn to her like a moth to a flame...
Pleasure and destruction, are they both the same?
Won't you join me my dear
On this night we'll play the Devil's game
There's something in the air
There's an ocean of flame
I can feel it burning somewhere
And if there's such a place, then that's the place that you'll find me
I can hear the fire calling. I want to take you there
Can you hear the fire calling?
I'm going down to the Sea of Fire, baby won't you come?
Passion that is worth an eternity of torment and sorrow
And so we sail into the Sea of Fire and now it won't be long
But they don't understand --
The only sin is to die, without having truly lived
One look into your eyes tells me you feel it too
You're drawn to the fire
The moths flutter together in the frenzy of their last moments
i like to think that this song is about giving into temptation and desire... it's a beautiful song.
This song is about a person who has fallen in love and when dead is sent to hell "the Sea of Fire" and the person asks thier love to fallow ("Wont you come with me")And the two so deeply drawn to each other thattheir love fallows "As moths we gravitate to the lantern of sin But they don't understand -- The only sin is to die, without having truly lived One look into your eyes tells me you feel it too You're drawn to the fire The moths flutter together in the frenzy of their last moments "

For some reason or another, when I hear this song, I think of the "chicken" scene at the end of Rebel without a cause, I dont know why, I know its not about that, but it reminds me of it.
I think of a few things when i read these lyrics, Johnny Cash ' Ring of fire' has a similar story to it , and the 'Great Tragedy' Romeo and Juliet. the denial of love.
I think this song is about temptation, as well. To me, this is a really dark song. I think that what he's trying to say is that what living means to him will send him to hell. But, he doesn't care, he'll burn in the fire if it means really living life.
I think this song is about temptationg as well. A person being tempted to being unfaithful to another. Basically saying that the passion he feels for this new person, and his actions will send the both of them to the "Sea of Fire". Going to the sea of fire I think is a metaphor for basically being unfaithful.
i agree it's about being tempted, but i think it's not so much hell, but the pain that he's going to go through being in another relationship. he knows in the end it's only going to cause pain. he's well aware that he is super destructive in relationships, but he wants her anyway, dispite knowing it's going to end in suffering for him. but to live even for a moment is worth everything after. the sea of fire is the passion that overwhelms you and eventually destroys you. it's that bit of life that is worth living thru (despite?) all...
