This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version.
Great version of a great song,
I'm dead
I died long ago but my spirit still roams (Incorporeal)
Unwanted in heaven, forgotten in hell as on earth (Incorporeal)
I don't want to stay here, it seams that I'll never be free
Oh can you hear me? (no)
And so
It has come to be that I must wander forever (Incorporeal)
Many things I have seen, empires that rise and then fall (Incorporeal)
A life you live long is simply a moment to me
A tiny drop of water in the sea of eternity
There's no place for me everywhere that I go
Only seems to bring upset and harm
There's one thing that I want and one thing only
Release into the great beyond
Don't want to remember when I was alive
When I held my true love in my arms
For like you I once was, and like me you shall be
When you
Feel a chill in the night perhaps it's me saying hello (Incorporeal)
You're so much like my love though she lived in a long ago time (Incorporeal)
I long to see her for the day when my soul's laid to rest
The peace that I can not find in life, I can find in death

Just A Little Lovin'

I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example:
"'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.

Sunglasses at Night

In the 1980s, sunglasses were a common fashion for people who wanted to adopt a "tough guy" persona (note all the cop shows from that era -- Simon & Simon, Miami Vice, etc. -- where the lead characters wore shades). So I think this song is about a guy who wears shades as a way of hiding his insecurity after learning that his girlfriend is cheating on him. He's trying to pretend that he's a "tough guy" to hide the fact that his girlfriend's affair is disturbing him.
Actually Nick said that he was reading through something (possibly lovecraft for all I can remember) and came across the word incorporeal. He pretty much just made a story about this ghost and his experiences as one. I don't really think this song is meant to be interepreted, but meant to be taken at face value: a ghost story and such.
People can write from a surrealist point of view, and not everything has to be from the point of view or experiences of the actual writer. I do it all the time if I ever write things. Writing from the perspective of a character or thing that has nothing to really do with yourself really.
This song is way to above others, ´cause this talk about truth when you fall in deep depresion, you dont want to stay here, and you feel like the only peace you can have it´s only being death, pretty good song.
yeah this is their best song by far
this is an awsome song one of there best
yaya pipas got it this song is grrrreat... course all of their songs are but this is in the upper 75 percentage of em.... (check out me lyrics under deranged youth)
Great song. Probably my favorite on the album..
this song is about being in a state of like not being alive, but your not in haven or hell, so yourjust wandering on earth as nothing, your like a gost, u have no where to go, its crazy
This song is great. Probably one of my favourites from Tiger Army. I think this song is talking about how someone can't take it anymore and just wants to die. Maybe someone feeling left out. I dunno.
tiger army is the best... and i know when they release their new album, it will be just as good...
I think its definitely about someone that has died but has not gone to heaven or hell, they are stuck here on earth as a ghost or whatnot... they have been stuck like this for a long time and just want to be released into the afterlife.
