I Am Fred Astaire Lyrics
I'm under the assumption that
I'm gonna be the one that's leaving you
tonight, tonight
Well I've flipped every switch that I could find on my way out
just to upset you more (just to keep you busy),
just to make you angry (just because you were right),
just because you were...
All tired, scream safe haven,
let's get this out and on the table
Fast forward to say four o' clock
I'm keeping time,
I'm holdin', we're always holdin' (we're always holdin'),
we're always holdin, holding out
and that's what got us here in the first place
You should have never come here alone
(you should have never bothered at all)
bothered at all
We're older and wiser,
still filled with resentment
We got it, we got it all
(I haven't been happier since)
Older and wiser,
still filled with resentment,
We got it, we got it all
(I haven't been happier since, I haven't been happy, no, not since)
Well, five 'o clock the floor caught fire with footsteps
(my footsteps)
It spread like a disease to the door
(I'm stuttering through it, but I hear it)
Well I, I hear it's good t-t-to stick with you
and you know a whole lot of this
It all could have been avoided when
you were courtside for this nightmare
Well since then I got myself, come and listen
Older and wiser,
still filled with resentment
We got it, we got it all
(I haven't been happier since)
Older and wiser,
still filled with resentment,
We got it, we got it all
(I haven't been happier since, I haven't been happier since, I haven't been happier since, I haven't been happy, no, not since...)
Well, we used to get so much more
(I used to, I used to too)
It used to take so much more
(I used to, I used to too)
I used to, I used to too
I'm gonna be the one that's leaving you
tonight, tonight

"Well I've flipped every switch that I could find on my way out just to upset you more (just to keep you busy), just to make you angry (just because you were right), just because you were..." i havent read all the comments but i dont think he literally means light switches. i think he means he tried to piss someone off in every way he could possibly becuase he knew they were right about something. The Fred Astaire reference is probably just an allegory for the artful dance he makes out of destroying whatever relationships he's in. He's choreographed every move and every word to the point where he seems to be practically emotionally disconnected to the fights, and he's just following a dance. The last lines (it used to take so much more, I used to too) sort of seems to imply that, these days, he's readily given up on trying to care anymore and just dances his way through his problems.
well put, i feel the same way and can relate to your response about the song.

about getting older and moving on to bigger and better things/people.
new TBS album is hot shizzy
it's funny how bands progress into "harder" and "faster" sounds on their sophomore album, and tbs slows down the pace. i'm not really digging this one either. a bit too basic. i miss john. "/
everyone needs to get off johns dick, the band wasent made by just him,yea whe he left a small piece of the band left too but fred is just as if more talented.new cd is sweet.
yeh, i think maybe this album is maybe lyrically weaker than tayf, but i love it, cant stop listening 2 it. everysong is great for me
I am so jealous, where are you people hearing these songs?
this sounds like a response to "a slow descent" by straylight because in it john sings "i'm tired, cynical and broken, but wiser, heavy with a sense of resentment"
i must agree a big chunk of TBS left in john. and johns new band is great. with amazing lyrics. however i still think TBS's new album will be great. however i think matt is a much better bass player than shaun. i saw them live in may and matt is a really talented bass player. love the bass line in the verse of decade under the influence.
hey tootsie, ever hear of a little thing called soulseek?
