Miss Sunflower Lyrics
If I was a sunset, I'd want to lay on your bed,
And watch the Hollywood lights flicker as it started to dim.
If I was a movie, you know I'd feel pretty good.
I'd watch you dancing all night in the dark where I stood.
I don't think about you
I don't think about you
I don't think about you
You don't think about me
Miss Sunflower Blue
She's got the brown eyes, yeah, and they're pretty as hell
And they'll burn through your shirt if you're holding her still
She's got a lighter, and a lit cigarette
And if you're making her smile, that's just as high as you can get
I don't think about you
I don't think about you
I don't think about you
You don't think about me
Miss Sunflower Blue
I'm still out on Sunset in a taxicab
I'm still at the movies, and I'm holding your hand
Still at an overpass view looking out at the lights
Still on an airplane, and I'm starting to cry
I don't think about you
If I was the evening, you know I'd send you a breeze
I'd let it whisper in your ear, kiss you and sing you to sleep
If I wasn't so screwed up, maybe all the words might have come
But I think the needing just took everything they wanted was sung
I don't think about you
I don't think about you
I don't think about you
You don't think about me

this is one of my favorite songs of all time, but i'm never quite sure what it means...i'll give it a try.
it's about a girl that he'd do anything for, and it seems like any small gestrure from her towards him he takes as meaning so much. he's in love with her, and she either doesn't realize it, or doesn't take his feelings seriously. so him saying he doesn't think about her, is him trying to tell himself, that no matter how often he actually does, if he can at least tell himself he doesn't, it's his sort of justification for her not thinking of him. he needs to tell her how he feels, and he probably has told himself hundreds of times what he wants to say, but when he finally gets to her to do it, he is frozen, and he loses his chance. so he goes back to telling himself he doesn't think of her, when he really does all the time..
This is one of the most beautiful songs ever.
Absolutely Vital
Amazing.
yeah, I feel as if he's being very strong willed when he says "I don't think about you," it's extremely obvious that he does not only think about her, but basically worship her, and he meant it to appear that way. To me it sort of seems like hes joking or being a little sarcastic, but I don't know if those are the right words because he's sadly in love and hopeless in trying to rid his mind of her. The song is absolutely beautiful, so full of passion and emotion and details. What woman doesn't want a song of that stature written about her?
I think she's broken up with him and he is still crazy about her... "i dont think about you" he is fooling himself to try and forget her cus the pain is unbearable that he cant be with her. he recalls memories with her that he cherishes. "But I think the needing just took everything they wanted was sung" this means he was almost obsessed with her, we all know how women are, once they got a fish, they think they need another one. thats why she doesn't think about him, she's got another man. Ultimately this song is about an ex that he's hung up on.
@ihatewestseneca "we all know how women are" - that is a generalization and clearly not true. your statement isnt fact and not made from logic, just bitterness from your own experience. let me explain the following lyric "i think the needing just took everything the wanting was sung". they had everything they wanted but there comes a point when wanting isnt enough. sometimes what you want and what you need are two very different things, and thats why they broke up

this is a song about impossible love...the ones you long for in secret and no one really knows about because you hide it to the world...and you wished you were a breeze or movie, or a sunset, because then you wouldn't need words, you wish you weren't thinking about them because it kills and you wish you didn't have to go...
This is one of the most beautiful songs he's ever written. Suicide Handbook is fantastic!
I agree with ekodili. But I also take it as someone that just couldn't take it. Maybe the relationship was too intense and he couldn't get past his own mistakes (drugs, distance, uncertainty) and let go. Now he's lost without her, wishing that he wouldn't have let her go, The emotions of not having her is fair worse the the intensity that distanced him beforehand. (if I wasn't so screwed up, maybe all the words would have come)
Agree.
Someone sent this song to me in response to a letter I wrote to Andy. What I thought the song meant - some feelings can only be experienced and words are inadequate to explain them. But a breeze caressing you as you sleep are like kisses in a dream. It feels so real but it isn't true. All the lyrics speak of action that he never took.
"If I was a sunset, I'd want to lay on your bed, And watch the Hollywood lights flicker as it started to dim. If I was a movie, you know I'd feel pretty good. I'd watch you dancing all night in the dark where I stood. "
Except the singer isn't a sunset or a hollywood movie so he only thought of those things but didn't do them.
I think the biggest regret is that he didn't let her know his true feelings and so instead of standing by his side, she is just a dream.
She doesn't think about him because she doesn't really know him.
