i think the black-eyed friends are snowmen, and since the season is changing, they are melting and leaving him. and he's saying how nothing every stays the same.

That's brilliant. I have racked my brain thinking "Who the hell are his "black-eyed friends"? That's a great observation and sheds a little more light on this idea of things change.
