Nan's Song Lyrics
You said when you'd die that you'd walk
with me every day
And I'd start to cry and say please don't talk that way
With the blink of an eye the Lord came
and asked you to leave
You went to a better place but He stole you
away from me
And now she lives in heaven
But I know they let her out
To take care of me
There's a strange kind of light
Caressing me tonight
Pray silence my fear she is near
Bringing heaven down here
I miss your love I miss your touch
But I'm feeling you every day
And I can almost hear you say
"You've come a long way baby"
And now you live in heaven
But I know they let you out
To take care of me
There's a strange kind of light
In my bedroom tonight
Pray silence my fear she is near
Bring your heaven down here
You taught me kings and queens
While stroking my hair
In my darkest hour I know you are there
Kneeling down beside me
Whispering my prayer
Yes there's a strange kind of light
Caressing me tonight
Pray silence my fear
She is near
Bringing heaven down here
The next time that we meet
I will bow at her feet
And say wasn't life sweet
Then we'll prepare
To take heaven down there
with me every day
And I'd start to cry and say please don't talk that way
With the blink of an eye the Lord came
and asked you to leave
You went to a better place but He stole you
away from me
But I know they let her out
To take care of me
Caressing me tonight
Pray silence my fear she is near
Bringing heaven down here
But I'm feeling you every day
And I can almost hear you say
"You've come a long way baby"
But I know they let you out
To take care of me
In my bedroom tonight
Pray silence my fear she is near
Bring your heaven down here
While stroking my hair
In my darkest hour I know you are there
Kneeling down beside me
Whispering my prayer
Caressing me tonight
Pray silence my fear
She is near
Bringing heaven down here
I will bow at her feet
And say wasn't life sweet
Then we'll prepare
To take heaven down there

My gosh! Reading these comments, I was a little taken aback to realise that this song is now over 20 years old!!
My Nan, my best friend when I was 20, died. The first ever person that I had to deal with death and loss. Completely broke me. A year after, I heard this song and dammit if Robbie hadn't written it for me! 😊 She taught me Kings and Queens, while stroking my hair 😊 Jack out of Town is what my Nan taught me at her kitchen table. This is my absolute go to song, when even after all this time, I need to feel her ❤️
oh my god!!this song is brilliant! when i heard this song i cried and it takes alot to make me cry!!! everyone can relate to this song and the lyrics are brilliant-one of the best songs on the album!
This is one of the most honest songs ever written. It is simple, true and beautiful. People can write songs and sing them, but it is more like we have taken a page out of the Robbie Williams Diary.
Means everything to me. It sums up exactly how I feel about my nan.
I love this song so much, its about even although someone has passed away they will awlays be with you looking out for you.
"And now she lives in heaven But I know they let her out To take care of me"
I also think its about someone who has been ill, they are here suffering and as much as he dosent want her to go on suffering and she would be better dead, he at the same time wants her here with him, but knows that heaven is better for her as the suffering has ended for her.
"You went to a better place but He stole you away from me"
There is so much in the song that most people could relate to it in some way or another and its a very peacful way of saying goodbye and that we will be together again soon :)
This song is written for Robbie's grandmother
It's about grief, pure and simple.
correct me if im wrong but is nan short for nanny?
nan = grandmother
This is about his grandmother Betty, who he was incredibly close to and he actually has the letter "B" tattooed behind his left ear.
She was a massive part of his life so basically this was a tribute to her, such a beautiful, honest lovely song and if often a fan favorite at his live shows
