Hey well this song means to me that since Jonhs a greenie and has THE BEST BAND IN THE WORLD not just aust...well this songs about mother nature, and is really cool,i just LOVE all his songs soooooo much!!! and i love hearing him play live too!!! But basically this song s about how we have to treat the earth with respect and how everyone should be well nice!!!! to me n e way!
Yeah, I too viewed the song as being a "take care of mother earth anthem" the most obvious being the friends in a tree in north clifton. he also starts the song by askin people not to call him a hippie, which is a typically a stereotype given to greenpeacers. also, the word recipe can be construed as being a reform or a way of changing something. plus the fact that the song is called "treat yo mama" meaning mother nature. and the uranium should be the final indication that this is a song that promotes protecting/respecting mother nature. or maybe im just crazy...
I beleive the fundamental message of this song to be that regardless of who/what you are, what you do/don't have, the environment is more important than all else and therefore must be respected and protected before our bank accounts.
I also believe it is important to note the extended metaphore which is used to liken mother nature to human mothers, both of which being nuturing and caring. This helps creates the message that we must respect mother earth as we respect our "mamas".
i'm very happy for john now he's made it to mainstreem, but the thing I cant stand is people thinking they understand when they dont. I was on my bus and asked people what they thought this song meant and thought it was just about treating your family well. I dont understand why people at highschool cant yet see what metaphors are!!!
