When the War Is Over Lyrics
Ain't nobody gonna steal this heart away
Ain't nobody gonna steal this heart away
When the war is over
Got to get away
Pack my bag to no place
In no time no day
You and I we used each other's shoulder
Still so young but somehow so much older
How can I go home and not get
Blown away
You and I had our sights set
On something
Hope this doesn't mean our days are numbered
I got plans for more than a wanted man
All around this chaos and madness
Can't help feeling nothing more than sadness
Only choice to face it the best I can
When the war is over
Got to start again
Try to hold a trace of what it was
Back then
You and I we sent each other stories
Just a page I'm lost in all its glory
How can I go home and not get blown away
Ain't nobody gonna steal this heart away
Ain't nobody gonna steal this heart away
Ain't nobody gonna steal this heart away
Ain't nobody gonna steal this heart away
Ain't nobody gonna steal this heart away
Ain't nobody gonna steal this heart away
Ain't nobody gonna steal this heart away
Got to get away
Pack my bag to no place
In no time no day
You and I we used each other's shoulder
Still so young but somehow so much older
How can I go home and not get
Blown away
On something
Hope this doesn't mean our days are numbered
I got plans for more than a wanted man
All around this chaos and madness
Can't help feeling nothing more than sadness
Only choice to face it the best I can
Got to start again
Try to hold a trace of what it was
Back then
You and I we sent each other stories
Just a page I'm lost in all its glory
How can I go home and not get blown away
Ain't nobody gonna steal this heart away
Ain't nobody gonna steal this heart away
Ain't nobody gonna steal this heart away
Ain't nobody gonna steal this heart away

This song is the most powerful thing I have ever heard.
What an incredible song, the simplicity of the lyrics, multi-layered brillance
This might be a dumb question but is it Jimmy Barnes singing the whole way through? I've never been much of a Chisel fan but I'm obsessed with this song at the moment...his voice kind of sounds different throughout the song....I love it at the end when he just goes off what an amazing voice!! it just gives me chills when ever I listen to this song.
@Maike Ian Moss is the first singer on this song he is on most all Cold Chisel songs as a vocalist and guitarist.

Your correct Maike,Ian Moss sings the first parts of the song and then Jimmy sings the last part. Great song, not too sure of the meaning!
I think this song is about a young man who got wrapped up in his youth, broke the law and got put in gaol. He's now about to be released and he's thinking about a girl who he left behind.
You and I we used each other's shoulder Still so young but somehow so much older How can I go home and not get Blown away
Possibley refers to the girl who he left and how he's worried about what people (including his girlfriend) will think of him when he returns home. He's a so much older due to him reflecting on his recklessness before he was gaoled (grow up quick in gaol).
You and I had our sights set On something Hope this doesn't mean our days are numbered I got plans for more than a wanted man
Again, tells of the life plans that he and his girlfriend had before he was put away. He hopes that its not over between them due to him wrecking these dreams.
When the war is over Got to start again Try to hold a trace of what it was Back then You and I we sent each other stories Just a page I'm lost in all its glory How can I go home and not get blown away
He's saying how he hopes his relationship will be the same as it was. Reflects on his time in gaol when she wrote to him.
Ain't nobody gonna steal this heart away Ain't nobody gonna steal this heart away Ain't nobody gonna steal this heart away
This is him saying that even though he's been away he still loves the girl and hopes it can be like it was.
This is my take on it if anyone's got better ideas let hear them.
"Got my Cheap Wine and a Three-day Growth"
@big_piss_drinker nope. It is about a soldier returning from war rhagvhas changed him and trying to move on and readjust to normal life.

I always just thought it was about a guy who's been sent to war...
What a perfect harmony
I always thought it was about a bloke who was sent to war too....but now the wars over and hes going home to his girl who he hasnt seen for a long time
=] Beautiful -xox-
Has Anyone Thaught Of This As Like, A Prelude To Flame Trees?
As In, The Girl That Has Left His Hometown, That He Is Thinking Of In This Song.
Something To Ponder.
