You Are in My Vision Lyrics
fade to scenes of violence
like a t.v. screen but silent
where the victims are all paid
by the hour
staring at the ceiling
as she gyrates all around me
i'm trying to forget
she's done this all before
far too many people
for a quiet night with myself
oh, i could be anyone
tonight
focus on a feeling
i've detected while i'm sleeping
sing a chorus of 'on broadway'
and deny it all
you are in my vision
i can't turn my face
you are in my vision
i can't move my eyes
you are in my vision
i can't move at all
you are in my vision
delicate bodies
that decay beneath their clothing
play cards in an empty house
in paris
the wreckage of a hero
lies broken in the corner
and everyone pretends
they like to live that way
you are in my vision
i can't turn my face
you are in my vision
i can't move my eyes
you are in my vision
i can't move at all
you are in my vision
you are in my vision (repeat)
like a t.v. screen but silent
where the victims are all paid
by the hour
staring at the ceiling
as she gyrates all around me
i'm trying to forget
she's done this all before
for a quiet night with myself
oh, i could be anyone
tonight

i've detected while i'm sleeping

and deny it all
i can't turn my face
you are in my vision
i can't move my eyes
you are in my vision
i can't move at all
you are in my vision
that decay beneath their clothing
play cards in an empty house
in paris
the wreckage of a hero
lies broken in the corner
and everyone pretends
they like to live that way
i can't turn my face

you are in my vision
i can't move at all

My favorite lines have always been:
"The wreckage of a hero/lies broken in the corner/and everyone pretends/they like to live that way"
And I have quoted those lines many times. I love the image of hypocrisy. Heroic deeds often have dire consequences and can be quite costly to the "hero". People like to point at heroes and pretend they would like to be one, but most are too afraid to pay the price.
great song ! when i broke up with my first band, this was the first song that i did with my band. they loved this song and became numanoids, just like me.
This is one of my two favorite songs of this album. A great piece of work. Replicas was a huge mark of improvement over the debut Tubeway Army album.
^ I never thought about it that way. I thought maybe it meant that everyone wants to have a tragic life, but that makes less sense.
great track! The chorus rocks! It seems more like he's saying you are in my way, rather than you are in my future... what do you guys think?
I never saw it as a mark against "the hero" in the corner. I thought maybe it means that people accepting being reduced to wreckage, which kinda makes sense considering there are a lot of references in this album to robots taking over and dehumanizing people. Maybe it's about how people allow themselves to be degraded when they could be something great if only they fought for it. Any way most likely over thinking it.
@damrat Not being a hero has its own price...
I took the "hero" section to be a continuation of the previous verse. Everyone pretends because they have no other way to live. I think it's another way of saying that everyone muddles through what can't be changed and tries to be ok with it.
Delicate bodies That decay beneath their clothing Play cards in an empty house In Paris
The wreckage of a hero Lies broken in the corner And everyone pretends They like to live that way
